Christmas FM has confirmed that the well known Christmas song ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’ will not be played on the station this festive season.
The song written by Frank Loesser in 1944, has seemingly become something of a controversial topic in recent days as a number of radio stations in the US have refused to play it following complaints about its questionable lyrics.
It is understood the song has been pulled from the airwaves following complaints about some of the song’s lyrics which have been deemed to insinuate manipulative and controlling behaviour towards the woman in the song.
Although the song has been performed by various artists over the years, Christmas FM confirmed to a Twitter follower that the song had been pulled from their playlist as it didn’t resonate with listeners.
It is believed that following lyrics have been debated the most: “I simply must go (But baby it’s cold outside)”, “The answer is no (But baby it’s cold outside)”, and perhaps most controversially: “Say what’s in this drink?”
Many believed that the lyrics insinuate manipulative and controlling behaviour, whilst some have said the “say what’s in this drink?” lyric could reference date rape.
