A narrow gap in the road

　タカサゴユリと思われるユリを最近あちらこちらで見かける。初めてこのユリに意識が向いたのは記憶にある限りでは一昨年の秋だろうか。

とある民家のブロック塀と道路との細いスキマにスッと背筋を伸ばして一本立ちしていた。こんな所でユリを見るのかと不思議に思ったが、アスファルトの隙間で咲いているような花が好きなのでその時は面白いと思っただけだった△

しかしそのユリに似た”ユリ”が一度気になるようになると、あちらこちらで見つけるようになった。

最初はいい加減な記憶力により勝手にヤマユリの類かと思っていたので、一昨年のものを面白いと思ったものだったが、花の大きさがそれよりも小ぶりだとやがて気が付いた△

『スキマの植物の世界』塚谷裕一著を紐解くと、タカサゴユリと言う名のユリを見つけた。姿形がそっくりである。その本によると台湾原産で「種子から一年で咲くというその素早い繁殖力から、現在は日本各地で野生化している」とある△

「タネは薄く平べったいので…スキマに入るのもお手のもの」の記述に膝を打つ。これぞスキマ草(筆者が勝手に命名)の真髄かと△

背の高いものは大人の腰ぐらいもあるかもしれない。花は白く開くと掌大ほどになる。非常に目立つが見た目が優雅なので抜かれにくいか△

在来植物が交雑影響を受けるそうだ。国立環境研究所の侵入生物データベースにタカサゴユリの記載があった。人間の勝手と、植物世界のバランスを上手く取る術はないか。

When I met a lily standing alone on the gap between the road and the walls that belonged to the house, I thought that it was funny. I thought that lily that is seen by us at around edge of a mountain.

But the lily was not Lilium auratum. It could be Taiwan lily that we could see anywhere else in residential areas.

They came from outside of Japan by humans. They are strong enough to survive in natures, so many lilies live in Japan. It wouldn’t be good, because they cross the species in Japan.

The lily looks beautiful, has a white flower. Quite big and tall but they wouldn’t be pulled out. I hope their fertility will not destroy the original species.
