たしか村上龍が『五分後の世界』で「リアリティ」のために戦闘シーンを延々と細かく描写するといっていたような記憶があるが、より圧倒的に「リアル」な世界が高橋弘希の『送り火』(文學界5月号)のバッドエンドにある。→

→情景描写もさることながら、そこにあるのは最悪の事態は日常の延長上でこんなふうに出し抜けに起こり得るというリアルだ。しかしそれが想像上でもわかっているのなら防ぐことはできる。回避策も想像/創造できる。一連の高橋弘希のシミュレーション小説の真骨頂だ(怪我小説の真骨頂でもある)。→

→だからといって、この小説をストレートな教訓として活用できるかというとそれは難しい。リスク回避のためには俯瞰でシミュレーション地図が見えている必要があるが、状況に埋没している当事者には、ましてや中学生のナイーブな歩にそれを望むのは酷だ。→

→思い出せば中学時代は私にも同じような危ない橋にただ身を任せて間一髪セーフといったことはたくさんあった。読み手には(つまり地図を見ている人には)全編にわたってヤバイ感じはビンビン伝わってくるのだが、たぶん歩は、まあこんなもんだよな仲間に入れてよかったよぐらいの意識だっただろう→

→しかも本当のヤバさは積み上げてきたシナリオとはまったく別のオプションXと稔のオプションYとして挿入されるのだ(Yはシミュレートできた)。世界の選択肢はかくも多様で残酷である。有事のために、地図を描く力を(フィジカルな痛みと紐付けて)ルーティーン化しておくしかないのか。

ということで、高橋弘希の『送り火』を読み終えて、次どうしようかなと思ってザッピングしていて気がついたら10ページほど引き込まれていた、さすが平野啓一郎『ある男』(文學界6月号)。
