This narrow arcade was one of main roads in the Kamakura Period(1185-1333).
But very few people know the very old knowledge about this local shopping town.
Around the noon of the first day of the year, only a few walkers pass here for the Asagaya railroad station. The population of those days around here were under one hundred. I try to imagine the lord Jiroh Asagaya and his family celebrated the new year like us, the modern Asagaya dwellers.

In my home town, we cut the thin rice cake plate into hundred of the dice to put on the branch after the New Year week and stand the branch at the family altar. And around the 3rd of February, my mother fried those completely dried small rice cake dice to eat for the health of the family.
The Japanese cake shop Hachinoki stands this tree of rice cake dice in front of the shop.

In the morning of the second of January, I go to the Shinjuku to eat donuts and find lots of over middle people taking photography with the new digital SLR camera. Here, an old man uses his camera on the walking bridge.

I've walked through in front of this doughnut shop because of the long waiting queue. I hate to stand into a queue. But today is the second day of the New Year. The time is early 10 o'clock. Very a few client would be there, I think.
Yes, that's right. The customer were only three but me. I can enjoy the donuts at last. It's very very soft and wonderful sweet.

They held a ceremony for purifying the building site. This thin sand mound is a stage of the ceremony. But now cats use here as a wonderful big rest-room.

They make oil sardine in their shop and grilled them to put on the steamed rice.
The taste of this restaurant is the American food and cooking. But this menu is the taste of Japanese and very good.

This Chinese spiced minced meat noodle is very good. But I love the name of the restaurant. The name is Chyomoranma( Mt.Everest). Ha, ha, ha....

The workers take a smoking break and I stop watching the approach of trains.
The temperature is only six degrees, but the Sun light is very warm. I think the level looks very pretty enough to make me take a few shots.
