I found an Anne Perry in L.A. and was easily caught with the charm of her Victorian era mystery. She has two series. The more famous one is the series of investigator William Monk. And the other is the one of Thomas and Charlotte Pitt.
Thomas is a superintendent and Charlotte is his wife. This Ashworth Hall is of Mr. and Mrs. Pitt.
The England gouvernment and the Scottland Yard send Thomas to a country house of Charlotte's sister's with Charlotte to watch and gurd a conference in which four Irish political leaders discuss Irish home rule. The Chief of Yard thinks Thomas is the only policeman who can take part in the party of the social dinner or afternoon tea. Though Thomas was born in the lower citizen, he was well educated and got married with Charlotte who was born in the upper class and who is a woman of talent for detective. Thomas is not so rich enough to make new dresses for a week long visit in the country house. The women should change their dresses five times in a day and put on diffrent dresses every day. One woman needs 35 dresses in a week. So Charlotte must ask her friends , the sister and relatives to borrow her their dresses and accessories.
Afeter a comical preparement story, the conference begins and the conflict of four political parties and men is so serious that their women would not hide their feeling of detestation against the other parties. Charlotte and her elder sisiter Emily who was married with an England stateman manage to keep parties with thier knowledge of tribia conversation. When the disscussion would be successful and the peace would come to the Ireland, the moderator gets murdered.
The England gouverment nominates Emily's husband as a new moderator. And in the library of her husband, there occurs an explosion and one of the leaders is killed.
Who-done-it? Why-done-it? Charlotte takes a trip to London to get the information for find a criminal.
Cakeater is fully confused with the political conversations and debates among the men and women. I can not identify who is speaking. So I must make a note for Irish political parties and characters:
A rich catholic Paradig Doyle, single. A rich protestant Carson O'day. Poor catholic Lorcan McGiney and his wife, a nationalist poet, Iona O'leary. Poor protestant Fergal Moynihan and his sister, Kezia Moynihan. The moderator, government bigwig, Ainsely Grevielle and his wife Eudora.
The owner of the country house, Emily Radelay and her husband Jack Radley.
