日本語なしでの日本でのサバイバル

I do all of the translations myself, typically using Japanese/English dictionaries, as most of the translations are words or simple phrases. In order to be more independent, I needed to quickly learn a lot of difficult kanji and vocabulary, which I often write about in blog posts. If the meaning of a particular word or kanji is ambiguous or unclear, then I ask my husband or a native speaker for clarification. With that said, my husband graciously offers a second set of eyes to catch mistakes I may have missed (but the same goes for English).

Sometimes I might ask a native speaker or other expats about specific products or experiences. For example, when I wrote the post "How much to give at a Japanese wedding," I did a poll on Twitter and received helpful responses from Japanese and foreigners alike. One person was kind enough to send me a link to a Japanese wedding website with specifics about expected gift amounts that I translated, with help from my husband.

ツイッターなどで在日外国人や日本人に助言を受ける、こともある、という。

こういったことを多いに利用して欲しい。

親日的な外国人に対して、自分にできる手助けをしたい、相談にのりたい、日本人は沢山いる。

たしかに、無料の日本語教室などあればよいが、しかし、ネット上のチャットなどでも日本語で外人としゃべりたい、日本語を教えたい、日本人は沢山いるだろう。そうやって日本語の習得も頑張ってもらいたい。

また、そういった相互交流がまた、日本人の外国出身者の絆を深め、また、そうした姿を公開することで、他の日本人・在日外国出身者のロールモデルにもなる。

　スーツケースに覚せい剤を隠して密輸入したとして、大阪府警と大阪税関は１日、大阪市淀川区の無職の女（７１）を覚せい剤取締法違反の疑いで緊急逮捕し、大阪地検が同法違反の罪（営利目的輸入）で起訴した、と発表した。同税関によると、女は求婚されたナイジェリア人の男にスーツケースを渡されたと説明しているといい、「覚せい剤が入っているとは思わなかった」と容疑を否認しているという。

こういう形の交流はよくない。

Sarkozy to Reding: 'You will pay consequences for insulting France'

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - French President Nicolas Sarkozy has had enough of EU justice commissioner Viviane Reding's sharp criticisms of his administration and has told her she will "pay the consequences."

"France told the commission that it has insulted her as a nation," Victor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary told reporters in Brussels at a meeting of Europe's centre-right leaders ahead of an EU summit, reporting on a lunchtime exchange between the French leader and the head of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso at the event.



"France is a very proud country. You cannot insult France without consequences and Ms Reding has insulted her," Mr Orban continued.

The outburst came after Ms Reding on Tuesday (26 October) denounced a pact between France and Germany to push for a change to the EU treaty and the withdrawal of voting rights from spend　thrift EU member states, describing the deal as a "Franco-German diktat" and "irresponsible."

The British National Party has set up a branch in the United States – nine years after it abandoned a fundraising drive across the Atlantic amid controversy over its links with American white supremacists.

The far-right party described its new US "unit" as simply a social networking organisation designed to help expatriate BNP supporters stay in touch with one another, and the party, while working abroad.

But the Government last night accused the BNP, which has been hit by internal strife following poor general election results, of looking overseas to promote "hate and intolerance".

The new US branch has signed up 90 sympathisers, while a Canadian branch has 60 members. The party is also trying to boost its presence in Europe and the Far East.

Five Britons were among several dozen people arrested during a demonstration by the right-wing English Defence League in Amsterdam.

Around 60 EDL activists turned up in the Dutch city yesterday to support Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders.

The Britons were among 34 people arrested during the day, Amsterdam Police spokesman Rob van der Veen said.

It is understood the five were held for not producing identification while on their way to the demonstration.

At the moment there is an imbalance that has China, the largest creditor nation on the globe, funding the US, the largest debtor nation in history. The US asking for the dollar to go down 20 per cent against the Chinese currency, the yuan, is essentially asking China, which holds $2.6 trillion in its reserves, to just lose a half a trillion dollars. China does not want that, and economists say this is far from being mutually beneficial.

“The US says: no… we want to bankrupt you like we bankrupted Japan, we want to disable you, because, if we can destroy you economically, then you can never become a military threat. And China says this is paranoid psychosis," said Michael Hudson, author and Financial Times contributor.
