今回のＣ２のReviewでは、自由貿易のメリットは、デメリットを上回るか？
というトピックで、Short essayを書いていただきました。

Topic: Do the benefits of free trade outweigh the disadvantages?
昨年の英検１級のエッセイ試験に出たトピックの一つです。
英検１級では、１００ワードではなく、２００ワード前後で、いくつかの言葉が
指定されていて、それを盛り込んだものを書かなければなりません。
ちなみに、英検で指定されている言葉は、
●Competition
●Consumers
●Economic growth
●Environmental concerns
●International relations
●Tradition and culture
このうちの３つを使って書くことが求められています。
英検ではワード数は200 Wordsと長いですが、指定語句を見ることで、書く内容をある程度決められるので
楽だと感じるかもしれませんし、逆にその語いに関する周辺知識が不足していると、かなりハードルが高くなりますね。
Ｃ２クラスの方には、英検１級を受験中の方や、これから受験しようという方もおられるので
良い練習になったと思います。
今期、学習したニュースの中に、中国と韓国のＦＴＡ（Free Trade Agreement、自由貿易協定）に関するものがあったので、このテーマを選びました。
ニュースを通じて知ったことをもとに、知識を深めるとともに、自分でもそのテーマについて考えてみましょう。
さて、みなさんの回答について講評します。
まず１つ、よく書けている例をご紹介します。
I believe the benefits of free trade outweigh the disadvantages.(1) Benefits are for consumers in Japan and exporters from other countries, because Japanese people can buy cheaper products with no or less tariffs. There are already some people who buy less expensive beef from the U.S. and Australia. Exporters from other countries are suffering from high tariffs in Japan. They will gain more profit with free trade.（2）
Some people think we have to protect Japanese industry, especially agriculture. However, I think Japanese industry can become more competitive if they have to compete with foreign products.(3)
Therefore, free trade is more important than protected trade, and the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.(4)

(1)まずIntroduction（導入部分）です。
与えられたトピックに対して、「私は自由貿易のメリットはデメリットを上回ると信じています」と言っています。
トピックが疑問文なので、導入部分は、まずそれに対する自分の意見を述べるのが順当ですね。
(2)導入の第一文で言った意見について説明部分です。
利益を享受するのは日本の消費者と、他国の日本への輸出業者だと述べ、その理由を具体例を交えて説明しています。
自分の意見を述べ、その説明をし、その説明の中に具体例を入れると、分かり易く、かつ説得力も増すのでたいへん良い文章の運びになっています。
(3)では、自分の意見と違う意見について紹介しています
異なる意見があることも知っていて、それを提示し、その意見に反駁できれば、さらに説得力が高まります。
(4)が最後のまとめ、Conclusionです。
ここでは、それまでにしっかり論じていれば、もう一度、最初に述べた意見を繰り返すだけでもいいですが、この受講生さんは、「だから、自由貿易は保護貿易よりも重要だ」と指摘して自分の考えを補強されていますね。
模範的な回答例でした。(^.^) 他のみなさんも、このような構成の真似をしてみてくださいね。
もう１つ紹介します。
これも、がんばってかなり良く書けていますが、原文と少し校正したものとを載せたので、改良点を参考にしてみてください。
【Original】I think the benefits of free trade outweigh the disadvantages.
If import tariffs are removed, the prices of foreign goods will be inexpensive and we can easily buy imported foods and products and so on.
And Japanese exports will sell in many countries. To sell well, Japanese farmers and manufacturers will become competitive, and Japan’s industry and agriculture is expected to grow in domestic and foreign fields.
So I think free trade should be introduced in Japan.

It is often said that Japanese farmers will suffer if free trade is introduced. (2) In order to survive, Japanese farmers must become competitive. It they make it and their products become more attractive, they can expect to sell more in both domestic and foreign markets.
In other words, if you make efforts, the benefits of free trade outweigh the disadvantages, and I think free trade should be introduced in Japan.

(2)「～とよく言われています」という言い方で始めるとスムーズに話題を移すことができます。
自由貿易のテーマで、なぜ農業の話をとりあげるのかという理由になっています。
最後のConclusionでは、「言い換えれば、努力すればメリットが上回る」としました。
オリジナルは、77wordsで、課題として指定された語数より少し短かかったのですが、
校正した方では、130 wordsになりました。
限られた時間でうまく書くのは難しかったと思いますが、あと少し練習すれば、すぐにもっと上手に書けそうですね(^.^)
次は、Introductionの例を少しとりあげます。
I think～で始めた人が一番多かったですが、それでOKです。
それ以外に、
Free trade will give advantages and disadvantages.
メリットもデメリットもある、という言い方は、いいですね。
議論が多いテーマで自分の意見を決めかねるような場合は、このように始めると書きやすくなります。
一方、
In my opinion,～で始めた場合は、自分の意見に少し自信があるように聞こえるので、それにふさわしい内容が後に続くといいですね。
ほかに良かった表現
I think free trade is beneficial for Japanese consumers.
I would like to say yes, because Japan is the country gaining money by export.
などがありました。一文でもいい文章が書けると、その表現は今後、自分のものになりますよ(^.^)
他にも、たくさんいい文章や、異なる考えもありましたので、そのうちのいくつかを紹介します。
For example, beef from the United States and Australia is much cheaper than Japanese beef, so we can easily use one in daily meal.
But the increase in foreign agricultural products has raised concern about safety of foods. For instance, some frozen foods made in China contained pesticides two years ago, so quality control of products seems to be more important to secure safety.
外国製品の安全性に対する懸念について取り上げた方もたくさんいました。
Japan is an industrial country, and exports a lot of products. However, imports of some kinds of foods raised concern.
Free trade stimulates many industries.
Some old industries in Japan are struggling. They need to change, but they can’t by themselves.
書ききれませんが、今回はここまでにします。
