東日本大震災：アメリカの学校の生徒たちからの心温まるメッセージ

 

アメリカから素晴らしいEメールが届きました。Connie Cokerさんからです。Connieさんは、ワシントンDCにあるGreen Acres Schoolの先生です。2008年に「日本フルブライト・メモリアル基金教員プログラム事業」（残念ながらこのプログラムは2008年で最後になりました）で三重県の学校を訪問された時に、当時三重大学長だった私を表敬訪問されました。

Connieさんが三重大の学長室に訪問した時の模様は、彼女自身によって書かれた日本訪問についてのブログに載っています。彼女と私のツーショットも載っていますよ。

メールには、Connieさんの教えている生徒たちが、日本の国旗を形作ってくれた写真が添付されていました。ただし、日本に対する愛、共感、そして希望を表すために、赤い太陽が赤いハートに置き換えられています。

Dear Friends in Japan,

 

My name is Connie Coker and I am a teacher in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.  I visited Japan during the summer of 2008 as a participant in the Japan Memorial Fulbright Program.  I visited some of you in Tokyo before meeting some of you during my visit to Yokkaichi, Mie.  I am writing to let you know that many people in the United States are thinking of and praying for your country as you grapple with the recent earthquake and its aftermath.   

Today, to show our solidarity, my students at Green Acres School gathered to form a Japanese flag.  We replaced the red sun in the flag with a red heart to show our love, compassion, and hope for your country.  Please share this image with your friends and family members to show them that we are thinking of them.
