司馬遼太郎記念館はもっと早く来ておくべき作品でした

司馬遼太郎記念館はずいぶん前から観たいと思っていた建築の一つです。

安藤氏は、建築は「外から見た時には、控えめで、中に入るとおおらかな空間があり、感動があるのがよい」という趣旨のことを言っていますが、この司馬遼太郎記念館はまさにそういう感がします。

アプローチです。

中が撮れないのが残念です。有名な本の壁の吹き抜けは平面は扇状、高さ11ｍ以上ありますが、本棚と本棚の間は６ｍにも満たない空間です。どこかに入り込んでしまった（すなわち司馬遼太郎の内面世界ということでしょう）という感覚がうまくつくられています。1階から地下への階段、それから1階へのＲ形状の階段など人の行為を導く空間もたくみです。外観から見るとなんということのない縦長の窓（下の写真）が階段への光を導いている重要な窓になっているところもプラニングの妙です。

階段室の光の入れ方はアールトを彷彿とさせます。

そして展示されているスケッチを見ると初期においては敷地形状も異なり、建築も全く違った雁行形であったことが分かります。ただそこに、隣の土地が手に入らないかというコメントがあり、結果的には敷地の形を変えて現在の案となっていったことが分かります。的確な指摘というか、恐るべき執念ですね。

I visited Shiba Ryotaro memorial museum which I believe a masterpiece of Architect Tadao Ando.

The museum naturally reminds me of Hujisawa Shuhei Memorial Museum I designed in tsuruoka city.

Acording to the building specification set ahead of the design competition, an exhibition room must be separated from other spaces including  a corridor and hall. Then I decided to make an exhibition room as a completely closed RC box like KURA, a traditional storehouse in that region.  And I enclosed the solid box in RC structure with Sayado (pod hall) in steel structure.

Though I am satisfied with my work, while walking in Ando's museum, desultory thoughts are coming and going. "There might be an another solution if the architect had joined the making process of a preliminary document of the museum"  um.
