ブログでも紹介させていただきます。
この本は槇文彦先生の「奥の思想」を軸とした建築、都市論である『見えがくれする都市』（共著、鹿島出版会 1980）を加筆・訂正した英語版です。江戸、東京を題材とし、都市を歴史的、文化的に読み解くことを通して、私たち日本人の建築、都市空間に対する集合的な意識、空間的な思考の枠組みを浮かび上がらせようとしたものです。
海外からの観光客が多く訪れるようになり、都市や建築が作り出す表面的な事象の底に流れる変わらない原則を説明する機会も多くなっています。そういったことを考えるささやかな契機になるとすれば望外の喜びです。
私も共著者として加わっているので紹介させていただきます。

Now I am happy to show a copy of our book “City with a hidden past” that
has just been published. As prof. Maki, main author, emphasized in this book,
we tried to discover what the most important principles underlying the phenomena in our cities are.
I was sometimes puzzled by my foreign friend's pointed questions on the characteristics of our city or the way we made it while we were walking around some historical district of Tokyo.
I hope this book would help foreign people to understand our city and our culture.
