世田谷区庁プロポーザルのプレゼンテーション

世田谷区庁舎建て替えのプロポーザルに6者の応募がありました。今日はプレゼンテーションを聴きに成城へ。現況面積を倍以上にしようという条件。前川國男の思いをこめた庁舎、区民会館そして広場を全て残すのは難しいでしょう。しかしほんの少し面積を小さくすれば、東半分(第1庁舎、区民会館、広場)を残すことはできるはずです。そう考えた建築家もいました。残念なことにおひとり(チーム)でしたが。

I attended the open meeting to select an architect to be in charge of Setagaya City Hall project. Six architects made the presentations to the jury.

I was once a member of the committee to make preliminary plan of Setagaya City Hall. The discussion sometimes got entangled. THe issue in dispute was whether the old city hall designed by Japanese famous architect Kunio Maekawa, who had worked for Le Corbusier, should be demolished or not. 

I do think it's time for us to change our way, from scrap-and-build to preservation.
