Neustupný (1985) Language norms in Australian-Japanese contact situations. In Clyne, M. (ed.) Australia, meeting place of languages. pp.161-170. Pacific Linguistics.
MF normally does not want her English to sound too Australian, and she pre-corrects her speech. However, she denied to have consciously used pre-correction within conversation 1.
It is a common experience that speakers pre-correct their English in certain categories of contact situations in order to present themselves in a particular way. The maintenance, expansion and the redirection of this ability is of great importance for language policy.
Neustupný, J.V. (1985) Problems in Australian-Japanese contact situations. In Pride, J. B.(ed.), Cross-cultural encounters: communication and miscommunication. pp.44-84. Melbourne: River Seine.
