先日、質問があった、固有名詞の定冠詞について、以下、辞書からの抜粋です。

固有名詞にはふつうは冠詞がつかないが，次のような場合は一般に定冠詞をつける。
定冠詞のつく固有名詞
＃ 河川・海洋：the Thames [temz], the Sea of Japan, the Pacific
＃ 山脈：the Alps, the Rockies, the Himalayas
＃ 群島：the Philippines, the Marianas
＃ 海峡・半島：the English Channel, the Izu Peninsula
＃ 運河：the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal
＃ 砂漠：the Sahara （Desert）
＃ 船舶：the Mayflower, the Titanic
＃ 官公庁：the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
＃ 博物館・図書館・劇場など：the British Museum, the Hibiya Library,
the Globe Theater, the Eiffel Tower, the New Tokaido Line
＃ 新聞・雑誌：The Times, The Economist
＃ 団体名：the Republican Party，the Liberal Democratic Party

［注］ the のつかない固有名詞：
一般に国名，大陸，州，県，都市，山，湖，島，岬，公園，広場，
駅，橋，学校，教会，城，天体などにはtheをつけないのがふつう：
