Viva la vida

先日、中身が全く無い記事の中で紹介したColdplayのViva la vida。



良い曲です。
ただ、PVのボーカルの動きが少々アレ。

あと、歌詞の中に史実イベントが盛り込まれてる風でちょっと気になる。
以下、歌詞を英文そのまま転載。
和訳はアレなので割愛します。

という具合に、歴史的なイベントがチョイチョイ含まれているっぽいので、幾つかピックアップしてみます。
かなり蛇足込みで。

Seas would rise when I gave the word
→モーゼが杖をかざすと海が割れるというアレ。
ちなみに、塩野七生「ローマ人の物語」のどこかで「どうせモーゼの十戒なんて、ワーワーうるさい民衆を黙らせるために、岩の後ろでモーゼが石板にルールを彫って『神の言うことに従え』的なことを言っただけだよ」みたいなことを書いていました。
面白いというか勇気があるというか、たまに渋谷の交差点にいる「神を信じないものは地獄に落ちます」的な街宣をしている人にとてつもなく怒られそうです。

→　賽を振っているのは流行りの大河ドラマの平清盛・・・ではなく、ガイウス・ユリウス・カエサル。
以下 "Alea jacta est" より。
『ここを渡れば人間世界の悲惨、渡らなければわが破滅。進もう、神々の待つところへ！ 我々を侮辱した敵の待つところへ！ 賽は投げられた！』
ルビコン河をえいやと確信犯的に渡ったときの話ですね。

Listen as the crowd would sing

→　新王誕生の時に使われるフレーズ。
起源はフランスらしい。

→　ここは多分、聖ペテロのことかな？
ペテロ（天国への鍵をキリストから授けられた）が皇帝ネロによって殺された（とキリスト教徒は言っている）あたりのこととかそうじゃないとか。
ちなみに "666" は悪魔の数字とか言われているけど、これがネロに由来していたというのは面白い。

→　1行目と3行目はキリスト教、2行目と4行目がローマ帝国全般（もしくは十字軍時代のキリスト教）。

→　キリストがエルサレムに入城後、ローマ軍に捕縛され、その際に聖ペテロがキリストの身内であることを否定するというくだりのこと。

For my head on a silver plate
→　洗礼者ヨハネ。
ちなみに、このWikiに出てるレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチのヨハネ、何だかQueenのBrian Mayみたい。

For some reason I can't explain

→　ここは解釈が色々と出来るところ。
（１）天国の門番である聖ペテロが、天国の門を開けてくれない。
（２）ペテロがキリストの身内であることを否定するくだり。
（３）フリードリヒ2世

以上。

まあ、多分、歴史の栄枯盛衰的なサムシングが題材なんでしょうね、よく分からないですけど。

あと、最後にタイトルどう解釈するかなんですけど、まあ、ここは無数の取り方がありそうだし、個々人にお任せします。
（あんまり興味も無いので）
