蛙 A FROG
勘三さん 勘三さん
畦道で一ぷくする勘三さん
ついでに煙管を掃除した
それから蛙をつかまへて
煙管のやにをば丸薬にひねり
蛙の口に押しこんだ
Kanzo-san, Kanzo-san,
the man who was smoking a tabacco at a path between rice field was Kanzo-san.
After smoking, he cleaned his pipe.
Then, he caught a frog.
From tar of his pipe, he made a pill and forcefully pushed it into the frog's mouth.
迷惑したのは蛙である。
田圃の水にとびこんだが
目だまを白黒させた末に
おのれの胃の腑を吐きだして
その裏返しになった胃袋を
田圃の水で洗ひだした
It was the frog that was definitely worried.
It jumped into water of a rice field,
but it was in agony making its eyes white and black.
After all, it painfully vomitted its stomack itself,
and began to wash the stomack that turned inside out, using water of a rice field.
この洗濯がまた一苦労である
その手つきはあどけない
先ず胃袋を両手に受け
揉むが如くに拝むが如く
おのれの胃の腑を洗ふのだ
洗ひ終ると呑みこむのだ
This washing was extremely painstaking.
Hands of the frog were awkward.
At first, the frog held its stomack by its both hands,
then, as if it had massaged or as if it had worshipped,
it washed its own stomack.
Finishing washing, it swallowed its stomack..
《感想》
（１）
勘三さんは、普通のお百姓だ。
畦道で、煙草を吸い。煙管を掃除する。
それから愉快な気晴らし。
蛙にヤニの丸薬を飲ませる。
（２）
蛙は大変だ。
大苦悶だ。
ついには己の胃の腑を吐き出し、洗う。
ぎごちなく、しかしていねいに、胃の腑を洗い、飲みこむ。
（３）
お百姓には軽い気晴らし。
蛙にとっては、苦痛をもたらす拷問。
お百姓と蛙の関係はいかなるものか？
①蛙は苦痛の経験をした。これは自然の出来事で御百姓の責任を問わない。
②お百姓が蛙に慈悲を感じることはない。

お百姓が問題にするのは人間との関係のみだ。
③「どんな生き物にも魂がある」との仏教的、orアニミズム的立場からすれば、お百姓の行為は罪であり、罰を受けるべきだ。
④この詩人は、諦観の人で、現実家だから、お百姓に、仏罰が落ちるとは思わない。
⑤しかし蛙を擬人化している面があるから、蛙に同情している。
⑥確かに、世の中には、お百姓と蛙のように、強者の暇つぶし・気晴らしのために、ひどい苦痛・苦悶・拷問を受ける者がいる。
⑥ｰ2 そのようにこの詩を読めば、詩人の反骨or社会批判を見て取ることも可能だ。
⑥ｰ3 ただしこの詩人は自分の気持ちを表に出さず隠す人だから、これを認めないだろう。
