UEFA announces new World Cup 2010 qualifying format

Europe-based teams hoping to compete at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be split among eight groups of six teams, and one group of five, UEFA announced at Heerenveen. European football chief Michel Platini revealed the new format during the under-21 European Championships, won by hosts the Netherlands on Saturday.
本戦出場を目指すヨーロッパ53カ国のチームは、9グループに分かれ
8グループはそれぞれ6チームから成り、残り1グループのみ5チーム、という構成。

From the 53 UEFA-affiliated countries involved in qualifying, 13 will go on to compete at the 32-nation 2010 World Cup, the first to be held on the African continent. The nine group winners will qualify directly and the best eight runners-up will play home and away play-off matches for the remaining four places. Platini said: "It's a good compromise because I wasn't entirely satisfied with the previous format comprised of groups with seven and eight teams."
南アフリカ本戦出場32カ国のうち、ヨーロッパ枠は13。
各グループ1位は、そのまま出場が決まるけれど、
残りの4つの出場枠は、グループ2位の上位8チームが
ホーム　アンド　アウェイで争う、という厳しいプロセス。
なんだか、ややこしいです。
プラチニ会長は、1グループ７～８チーム構成、という前方式に
必ずしも満足していなかったそうです。

確かに、ユーロ2008予選は主催国、スイス、オーストリアを除く
52カ国が7グループに分かれて、各7～8チーム構成です。

選抜方式って、大会毎に変わっているような。
予選の試合数が減り、一位通過しそうな強豪チームには
有利な方式、と言えますでしょうか。
分離独立した国々の参加が、大会ごとに増え続けている
ということが、背景にあるようです。

Das neue Wembley-Stadion
Die Nationalmannschaft des Deutschen Fußball-Bundes (DFB) tritt am 22. August in London zu einem Freundschaftsspiel gegen England an. Am heutigen Montag ist die Anstoßzeit der Begegnung durch den gastgebenden Englischen Fußball-Verband (FA) offiziell festgesetzt worden: Das Spiel im neuen Wembley-Stadion wird um 21 Uhr MESZ (20 Uhr Ortszeit) angepfiffen und live in der ARD übertragen.

For the fourth time in as many years, Chelsea will tour the United States this summer as part of the club's pre-season preparation. The first training session overseas is scheduled for July 10, in Los Angeles. The first match will be played on July 14, in Stanford against Club América from Mexico City.

The 2007 tour will feature two more games, both in Carson, California: On July 17, Chelsea will meet the Suwon Samsung Bluewings from South Korea, two-time winners of the Asian Champions League, and on July 21 the opponents are David Beckham's new team, the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Blues' trips across the ocean have become a bit of a tradition. In 2004, Chelsea played Celtic, Milan and Roma on American soil. A year later, in 2005, the side met Milan again in addition to DC United from Washington. Last summer, the Blues faced the Major League Soccer All Stars. This was Michael Ballack's first match for Chelsea. While in Los Angeles, he also met an old acquaintance living there - national coach Jürgen Klinsmann (see photo).
開幕前のプレ・シーズンをアメリカで過ごすのは連続4年目。
2004年には、セルティック、ミラン、ローマと

Ballack:”Yes,there are much more yellow press newspapers than in germany..That I had to notice.Concerning the the criticism of some persons,I had a lot of expereinces.But I’ve learned quickly,not to take all things too seriously and to react elaxed.That was one part of my learning process.”

Ballack:”Young players must develope themselves and learn.That’s their developement.Podolski and Schweinsteiger have much experience,they must resist the pressure.They will go their way,no doubt.”

Both players were strongly criticised this season.Are the leaders of FC Bayern responsible for that?

Ballack:”I don’t think so.A career has highlights and lows,that’s normal.Lukas is only 20,don’t forget.At this age ,I didn’t play neither Bundesliga,nor in the national team.”

Ballack to promote Samsung

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, sponsors of Chelsea FC, will launch a big ad campaign in Germany that stars Michael Ballack. The primary aim is to promote Samsung's new mobile phone, the extremely slim SGH-U700. "Ballack is an exceptional football player," Samsung Germany's Norbert Strixner said, "and we are convinced he is perfectly suited to us and our products." On June 10, the campaign will kick off with a new tv spot.
サムソン電子はチェルシーのスポンサーですが、バラックをキャラクターに据えて、超薄型の携帯電話の大々的な販売キャンペーンをドイツ国内で開始するらしい。6月10日から新しいTVスポットコマーシャルが始まる、とのこと。


It is set on a hotel corridor, where Ballack helps a quarrelling couple to make up, using his presence of mind - and the fact that the new mobile phone is so stunningly slim. We don't want to give away the punchline, so suffice it to say that director Joe Tanner was impressed with Ballack following the shooting in London. "He is a professional in front of the camera," Tanner lauded Ballack. "He moves in a natural way and feels quite free. He does a really good job."

Ballack is the youth's biggest idol
バラックは若者のアイドル

A poll held among German children, teenagers and adolescents revealed that Michael Ballack is still the German youth's biggest idol.
バラック選手はドイツの若者達の間では、最大のアイドル、と人気投票の結果が示したそうですね。
Eleven per cent of those polled considered the Germany captain "really great", thus Ballack managed to defend first place in this particular competition (he'd also come out on top a year ago).
投票した若者達の11%が、ドイツのキャプテンは『ホントに素晴らしい』と答えたそうです。去年に引き続き、一位の座を守った、という訳。

The poll was conducted by the German opinion research institute "iconkids&youth"; 1,400 girls and boys, aged 6 to 19, were asked about celebrities "they dig the most". Germany international Lukas Podolski finished in second place, followed by the German teen pop group Tokyo Hotel.

Jose Mourinho has stated he feels 'untouchable' at Stamford Bridge, with the Chelsea boss further insisting he is happy with his relationship with owner Roman Abramovich.

Mourinho's future in London had been in some doubt throughout the season, with reports of a rift emerging in January after the manager was denied the funds to strengthen his defence at a crucial juncture in the campaign.
