A Japanese confectioner is aiming to tap the Malaysian market with a frozen treat that has long been popular at home.
Imuraya Group plans to locally produce and sell its sweet red bean Azuki Bar in the Southeast Asian country starting in September.
Imuraya says the bars will come in three flavors and be priced at just over a dollar each. They will be less sweet than those sold in Japan to cater to local taste.
The popsicles will be made with Halal-certified ingredients to comply with Islamic law, as Muslims account for a majority of Malaysia's population.
Imuraya has been selling the Azuki Bar in Japan for nearly 50 years, and its appeal hasn't faded. A record 292 million of them were sold last fiscal year.
