１:松本米三郎の仲居おつゆ
寛政六年八月、桐座上演の切狂言の「四方錦故郷旅路」に登場する仲居おつゆの役である。
芝居は近松物の心中狂言としてよく知られた桜川忠兵衛の狂言で、この役は、新町井筒屋、忠兵衛の封印切りの場に出る役である。
この絵は第二期の細判作品中、一二を争う佳品である。
いくつかの三角形の集積によって人物の構図を作り上げて写楽独特の立体美を見せている。
しかも、描線はなんの誇張もなくごく自然な立体像を描き出して、写楽の奥行きのある、厚味のある芸術が示されている。
色彩はベニガラ色の着物と黒襟と黒い帯が背色の黄摺りとよく調和して重厚味が発揮されている。襦袢の襟の前垂れの薄藍がまたいい配色の妙を見せている。
松本米三郎は、女形の四世芳沢あやめの子として生まれ、のち四世松本幸四郎の門に移り、松本米三郎となった。若女形としての人気が高く、中山富三郎、岩井粂三郎と三幅対といわれた。文化二年三月に没した。写楽は第一期の大判半身画でも米三郎を描いている。
