JAPANESE INN TURNS TO TOURISTS TO EASE LABOR SHORTAGE“働き旅”で人手不足解消へ

Now the holiday travel rush is worsening labor shortages around the country, especially in the tourism industry.
But one inn has come up with a unique system to ease the effects of the problem.
Popular sightseeing spots here in Tokyo are packed with tourists. But the effects of the labor shortage can be seen all around.
A rickshaw tour business in Asakusa lost nearly half of its drivers during the pandemic.
Some have returned, but the staff is still about 20 percent smaller than its pre-pandemic size. 
It has no choice but to turn some customers away.
But this inn in Shizuoka Prefecture is turning to an unlikely source of manpower – the guests themselves.
The inn has organized a “work while travel” system that pays visitors for tasks such as cleaning and serving meals.
The program also includes accommodation, food, and access to the on-site hot spring during non-working hours.

【原文】　
望月の円なる事は、暫くも住せず、やがて欠けぬ。心止ぬ人は、一夜の中うちにさまで変る様の見えぬにやあらん。病の重るも、住する隙なくして、死期既に近し。されども、未だ病急きふならず、死に赴かざる程は、常住平生の念に習ひて、生の中に多くの事を成じて後、閑かに道を修せんと思ふ程に、病を受けて死門に臨時、所願一事も成せず。言ふかひなくて、年月の懈怠を悔いて、この度、若し立ち直りて命を全くせば、夜を日に継ぎて、この事、かの事、怠ず成じやうじてんと願ひを起すらめど、やがて重ぬれば、我にもあらず取り乱して果てぬ。この類のみこそあらめ。この事、先づ、人々、急ぎ心に置くべし。
所願を成じて後、暇ありて道に向はんとせば、所願尽くべからず。如幻の生の中に、何事をかなさん。すべて、所願皆妄想なり。所願心に来たらば、妄信迷乱すと知りて、一事をもなすべからず。直に万事を放下して道に向ふ時、障りなく、所作なくて、心身永く閑かなり。

【現代語訳】　　
月が円を描くのは一瞬である。この欠けること光の如し。気にしない人は、一晩でこれ程までに変化する月の姿に気がつかないだろう。病気もまた満月と同じである。今の病状が続くのではない、死の瞬間が近づいてくるのだ。しかし、まだ病気の進行が遅く死にそうもない頃は、「こんな日がいつまでも続けばいい」と思いながら暮らしている。そして、元気なうちに多くのことを成し遂げて、落ち着いてから死に向かい合おうと考えていたりする。そうしているうちに、病気が悪化し臨終の間際で、何も成し遂げていないことに気がつく。死ぬのだから、何を言っても仕方ない。今までの堕落を後悔して、「もし一命を取り留めることができたら、昼夜を惜しまず、あれもこれも成し遂げよう」と反省するのだが、結局は危篤になり、取り乱しながら死ぬのである。世に生きる人は、大抵がこんなものだ。人はいつでも死を心に思わなければならない。
やるべきことを成し遂げてから、静かな気持ちで死に向かい合おうと思えば、いつまでも願望が尽きない。一度しかない使い捨ての人生で、いったい何を成し遂げるのか。願望はすべて妄想である。「何かを成し遂げたい」と思ったら、妄想に取り憑かれているだけだと思い直して、全てを中止しなさい。人生を捨てて死に向かい合えば、煩わしさや、ノルマもなくなり、心身に平穏が訪れる。

◆鎌倉末期の随筆。吉田兼好著。上下2巻，244段からなる。1317年(文保1)から1331年(元弘1)の間に成立したか。その間，幾つかのまとまった段が少しずつ執筆され，それが編集されて現在見るような形態になったと考えられる。それらを通じて一貫した筋はなく，連歌的ともいうべき配列方法がとられている。形式は《枕草子》を模倣しているが，内容は，作者の見聞談，感想，実用知識，有職の心得など多彩であり，仏教の厭世思想を根底にもち，人生論的色彩を濃くしている

【読んだ理由】
東山ご夫婦の著書。

【最も印象に残った一行】
離婚は自由を与えてくれますが、安心は与えられません。結婚は自由を束縛し、安心が与えられるのです。結婚はリュック一杯の苦労を背負い、ポシェット一杯の幸せを得る行為なのです。
女子の人生は、女児から乙女になるときの初潮、娘から女になるときの破瓜、女から母になるときの出産と、人生の節目節目で血が流れます。このため初潮の儀式、結婚式、腹帯、名づけ、お宮参り、出産の儀式などと、そのときどきの特別な儀式を大切にしました。儀式を経ずして血を流しますと、心に血が流れるからです。

【コメント】
遠くて近くは男女の仲。近くて遠くも男女の仲。
女と男の問題は、人間にとっての永遠のテーマです。人間は、女と男がいて子孫が継続し、女と男がいるから、幸せで、苦労で、生きがいがあり、失望があります。（前書きより）プロカウンセラーは実に博学だ。

USING AI TO SEE WHAT'S IN THE MIND'S EYE脳内イメージを生成ＡＩで復元

The day may not be far off when we can look into other people's minds.
A group of Japanese researchers says it's developed a method to reconstruct imagined images from brain activity using generative AI technology.
The researchers recorded people's neural signals as they viewed various images of landscapes and objects.
Then they quantified the physical characteristics of actual images into numeric values and developed a unique program that translates neural signals into numeric values.
The program makes it possible to convert imagined images of landscapes or other objects into numbers.
Artificial intelligence is then able to process those numbers and reproduce the mental images.
The group hopes the findings will lead to the development of new devices that allow the brain to convey people's intentions without using words or gestures.
