Mr. Sornton’s letter (a revised edition11/3) October 26. 2006
I wonder why I’m writing this letter. I don’t want you to read this letter definitely. Because I might not be living when you read this letter. You taught me what love was and how we felt when we loved each other. You taught me how we should live and what we should be for real happiness. I think God made us meet on this ground. I had put your photograph on the head of my bed. Every night I touched your face with my fingers I kissed. I fell asleep being watched by you. In turn I will watch you sleeping in peace in your dreams. Please close your eyes tenderly whenever you feel lonely. I’ll stand by you. I loved you body and soul. You were my destiny.
Eternal love to you.
Lee.

A young British soldier was killed by bullets in Iraq. Before he went to the field, he had left a letter to his fiancé. He wanted her to open and read it if he died. The letter was released by his fiancé and moved us deeply and quietly. He was Mr. Lee Sornton from Blackpool city in the country of Lancashire of England. He belonged to the 12th Artillery at the south of Iraq. On 15 September, he wanted to patrol the near town. So he was shot and died at the German hospital 2days later. He was 22 years old. Mr. Sornton got engaged to Ms. Hellen Oprey who was studying at the university to be a teacher. When he came back from Iraq, he was going to get married in 2008.
After he died, Ms. Oprey read the letter and grieved saying “ My mind is beyond expression. He was kind and generous. And he had all things I expected for men.”. In the game of Blackpool’s soccer team, soccer players and fans offered silent prayers for a minute, mourning him who loved soccer very much.
The Iraq war began in March of 2003 and 119 British soldiers have been killed since then. The British Army in Iraq is becoming weary of the war. (From Asahi news paper10/24)
