◆ハマン、失脚する
『 7:1 王とハマンは、王妃エステルの酒宴にやって来た。
7:2 この二日目の日も同様に、ぶどう酒を飲みながら王は言った。「王妃エステルよ、何か望みがあるならかなえてあげる。願いとあれば国の半分なりとも与えよう。」
7:3 「王よ、もしお心に適いますなら」と王妃エステルは答えた。「もし特別な御配慮をいただき、私の望みをかなえ、願いを聞いていただけますならば、私のために私の命と私の民族の命をお助けいただきとうございます。
7:4 私と私の民族は取り引きされ、滅ぼされ、殺され、絶滅させられそうになっているのでございます。私どもが、男も女も、奴隷として売られるだけなら、王を煩わすほどのことではございませんから、私は黙ってもおりましょう。」
7:5 クセルクセス王は王妃エステルに、「一体、誰がそのようなことをたくらんでいるのか、その者はどこにいるのか」と尋ねた。
7:6 エステルは答えた。「その恐ろしい敵とは、この悪者ハマンでございます。」ハマンは王と王妃の前で恐れおののいた。
7:7 王は怒って立ち上がり、酒宴をあとにして王宮の庭に出た。ハマンは王妃エステルに命乞いをしようとしてとどまった。王による不幸が決定的になった、と分かったからである。
7:8 ハマンがエステルのいる長いすに身を投げかけているところへ、王宮の庭から王が酒宴の間に戻って来た。王は言った。「わたしのいるこの宮殿で、王妃にまで乱暴しようとするのか。」この言葉が王の口から発せられるやいなや、人々はハマンの顔に覆いをかぶせた。
7:9 宦官の一人、ハルボナは王に言った。「ちょうど、柱があります。王のために貴重なことを告げてくれたあのモルデカイをつるそうとして、ハマンが立てたものです。五十アンマもの高さをもって、ハマンの家に立てられています。」王は、「ハマンをそれにつるせ」と命じた。
7:10 こうしてハマンは、自分がモルデカイのために立てた柱につるされ、王の怒りは治まった。
7:1 And so the king and Haman went to eat with Esther
7:2 for a second time. Over the wine the king asked her again, "Now, Queen Esther, what do you want? Tell me and you shall have it. I'll even give you half the empire."
7:3 Queen Esther answered, "If it please Your Majesty to grant my humble request, my wish is that I may live and that my people may live.
7:4 My people and I have been sold for slaughter. If it were nothing more serious than being sold into slavery, I would have kept quiet and not bothered you about it; but we are about to be destroyed-exterminated!"
7:5 Then King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, "Who dares to do such a thing? Where is this man?"
7:6 Esther answered, "Our enemy, our persecutor, is this evil man Haman!" /Haman faced the king and queen with terror.
7:7 The king got up in a fury, left the room, and went outside to the palace gardens. Haman could see that the king was determined to punish him for this, so he stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.
7:8 He had just thrown himself down on Esther's couch to beg for mercy, when the king came back into the room from the gardens. Seeing this, the king cried out, "Is this man going to rape the queen right here in front of me, in my own palace?" /The king had no sooner said this than the eunuchs covered Haman's head.
7:9 Then one of them, who was named Harbonah, said, "Haman even went so far as to build a gallows at his house so that he could hang Mordecai, who saved Your Majesty's life. And it's seventy-five feet tall!" /"Hang Haman on it!" the king commanded.
7:10 So Haman was hanged on the gallows that he had built for Mordecai. Then the king's anger cooled down.』
