『◆モルデカイ、王から栄誉を受ける
6:1 その夜、王は眠れないので、宮廷日誌を持って来させ、読み上げさせた。
6:2 そこには、王の私室の番人である二人の宦官、ビグタンとテレシュが王を倒そうと謀り、これをモルデカイが知らせたという記録があった。
6:3 そこで王は言った。「このために、どのような栄誉と称賛をモルデカイは受けたのか。」そばに仕える侍従たちは答えた。「何も受けませんでした。」
6:4 王は言った。「庭に誰がいるのか。」ハマンが王宮の外庭に来ていた。準備した柱にモルデカイをつるすことを、王に進言するためである。
6:5 侍従たちが、「ハマンが庭に来ています」と言うと、王は、「ここへ通せ」と言った。
6:6 ハマンが進み出ると、王は、「王が栄誉を与えることを望む者には、何をすればよいのだろうか」と尋ねた。ハマンは、王が栄誉を与えることを望む者は自分以外にあるまいと心に思ったので、
6:7 王にこう言った。「王が栄誉を与えることをお望みでしたら、
6:8 王のお召しになる服を持って来させ、お乗りになる馬、頭に王冠を着けた馬を引いて来させるとよいでしょう。
6:9 それを貴族で、王の高官である者にゆだね、栄誉を与えることをお望みになる人にその服を着けさせ、都の広場でその人を馬に乗せ、その前で、『王が栄誉を与えることを望む者には、このようなことがなされる』と、触れさせられてはいかがでしょうか。」
6:10 王はそこでハマンに言った。「それでは早速、わたしの着物と馬を取り、王宮の門に座っているユダヤ人モルデカイに、お前が今言ったとおりにしなさい。お前が今言ったことは何一つおろそかにしてはならない。」
6:11 ハマンは王の服と馬を受け取り、その服をモルデカイに着せ、都の広場で彼を王の馬に乗せ、その前で、「王が栄誉を与えることを望む者には、このようなことがなされる」と、触れ回った。
6:12 モルデカイは王宮の門に戻ったが、ハマンは悲しく頭を覆いながら家路を急いだ。
6:13 彼は一部始終を妻ゼレシュと親しい友達とに話した。そのうちの知恵ある者もゼレシュも彼に言った。「モルデカイはユダヤ人の血筋の者で、その前で落ち目になりだしたら、あなたにはもう勝ち目はなく、あなたはその前でただ落ちぶれるだけです。」
6:14 彼らがこう言っているところへ、王の宦官たちがやって来て、エステルの催す酒宴に出るよう、ハマンをせきたてた。
6:1 That same night the king could not get to sleep, so he had the official records of the empire brought and read to him.
6:2 The part they read included the account of how Mordecai had uncovered a plot to assassinate the king-the plot made by Bigthana and Teresh, the two palace eunuchs who had guarded the king's rooms.
6:3 The king asked, "How have we honored and rewarded Mordecai for this?" /His servants answered, "Nothing has been done for him."
6:4 "Are any of my officials in the palace?" the king asked. /Now Haman had just entered the courtyard; he had come to ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on the gallows that was now ready.
6:5 So the servants answered, "Haman is here, waiting to see you." /"Show him in," said the king.
6:6 So Haman came in, and the king said to him, "There is someone I wish very much to honor. What should I do for this man?" /Haman thought to himself, "Now who could the king want to honor so much? Me, of course."
6:7 -8 So he answered the king, "Have royal robes brought for this man-robes that you yourself wear. Have a royal ornament put on your own horse.
6:8
6:9 Then have one of your highest noblemen dress the man in these robes and lead him, mounted on the horse, through the city square. Have the nobleman announce as they go: "See how the king rewards someone he wishes to honor!"'
6:10 Then the king said to Haman, "Hurry and get the robes and the horse, and provide these honors for Mordecai the Jew. Do everything for him that you have suggested. You will find him sitting at the entrance of the palace."
6:11 So Haman got the robes and the horse, and he put the robes on Mordecai. Mordecai got on the horse, and Haman led him through the city square, announcing to the people as they went: "See how the king rewards a man he wishes to honor!"
6:12 Mordecai then went back to the palace entrance while Haman hurried home, covering his face in embarrassment.
6:13 He told his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then she and those wise friends of his told him, "You are beginning to lose power to Mordecai. He is a Jew, and you cannot overcome him. He will certainly defeat you."
6:14 While they were still talking, the palace eunuchs arrived in a hurry to take Haman to Esther's banquet.』
