1960年にBrogdonとCrowが「リトルリーグ肘」を提唱した。

1968年にスロカムが野球肘を
内側のTension overload（内側の過大な緊張）
外側のCompression injury（外側の圧迫障害）
後方のExtension injury（後方の伸展障害）
に分類した。

内側型：内側側副靱帯損傷、上腕骨内側上顆炎、内側上顆剥離骨折。内側上顆骨端線離開（Epiphyseal separation of the medial epicondyle of the humerus）。
外側型：離断性骨軟骨炎（osteochondritis dissecans：オステオコンドライティス・ディセキャンズ）、関節遊離体（joint loose body）。
後側型：上腕三頭筋長頭腱炎（Triceps long head of tendinitis）、肘頭骨端線離開。
外側型：離断性骨軟骨炎（osteochondritis dissecans：オステオコンドライティス・ディセキャンズ）、関節遊離体（joint loose body）。
後側型：上腕三頭筋長頭腱炎（Triceps long head of tendinitis）、肘頭骨端線離開。
上腕骨小頭離断性骨軟骨炎（Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Capitellum）

※外側尺側側副靭帯（lateral ulnar collateral ligament）と関連する。
外側側副靱帯複合体（LCL複合体=LCL complex:Lateral Collateral Ligament complex）の弛みである。
