4. China treats 3m farmyard birds in avian flu fear

The Chinese government moved into overdrive yesterday in belated reaction to an outbreak of bird flu in migrating geese， sending three million doses of vaccine to the vast north-west region. Last week， 178 geese that died on Lake Qinghai， a breeding ground on the Tibetan plateau， were confirmed as having died from the bird flu virus， H5N1.

渡り鳥のアウトブレークに対応して300万のワクチンを北西地区に送ったとか。先週だけで、チベットの繁殖地で、H5N1型インフルエンザで178羽が死亡。取り急ぎ、2日間でQuinghai地方の養鶏300万羽に対してワクチンを打つのだとか。

そんなもので間に合うとはとても思えませんが…。

One specialist said: "People do not need to panic and should be confident that the new cases will be brought under control as effective measures have been taken."
（或る専門家は「パニックする必要はありませんし、新型も効果的対策を採りましたのでコントロールできるでしょうし、安心すべきです」と語った。）

凄く嘘っぽい…。専門家って、勿論中国の専門家ですよ。テレグラフも指摘しています。

Despite their experience with Sars， the pneumonia that killed hundreds of Chinese after being covered up by the government two years ago， and allegations of concealing bird flu cases， the response of officials is still to play down viral outbreaks.
（彼らのSARS経験、2年前の政府隠蔽工作後に数百の中国人を殺した肺炎、そして鳥インフルエンザの隠蔽疑惑にも関わらず、公式回答は未だウイルスのアウトブレークを過小評価している。）

仰る通り。三点セットが出来ているのに、まだ「タイショプあるね。シンパイない」などと嘯いている。…もっとも、最初からシナ人などに期待すべきではないのでしょう。ばれたとわかったら、こう手のひらを返しましたよ（禿嗤）。

Officials in Qinghai at first denied that the geese fatalities were caused by bird flu， an announcement that was put down yesterday to "inexperience".
（Qinghaiの職員は、ガチョウの死因は鳥インフルエンザではないという当初の否定は、「経験不足によるものである」と昨日声明が出されました。）

In a second admission， the government reported two outbreaks of foot and mouth disease. Foreign agricultural experts say this is also endemic throughout China， though rarely publicised.
（二つ目の告白で、政府は、2件の口蹄疫アウトブレークを報告しました。海外の農業専門家は、殆ど発表された事はないが、これは中国全土での風土病である、と語りました。）

なんですか、この二つ目の告白というのは…「もう一つ白状した」との意訳が適しているかと思いますが…。

More than 50 people in south-east Asia， mostly in Vietnam， have died after contracting bird flu. The World Health Organisation fears that should a new strain spread more easily among humans it could cause a worldwide epidemic， killing millions.
（その殆どはベトナムであるが、東南アジアでは50人以上が鳥インフルエンザ感染により死亡した。WHOは、新型は人に感染し易く世界中で蔓延して数百万を死亡させるのではないか、と危惧している。）

洒落になりません。その上で、既にアウトブレークしている国へのビサ開放ですか！？キチガイ沙汰としか思えません。

China claims not to have suffered any human infections. But Vietnamese health officials said yesterday that preliminary tests had shown another person had died of the virus at a hospital in Hanoi last week.
（中国は人への感染はない、と宣言する。しかし、ベトナムの保険官僚は昨日、先週ハノイの病院で感染によりもう一人死亡したと予備検査によって判明した、と語った。）

中国人の嘘吐きは四千年。嘘吐きという言葉がない（ラルフ・タウンゼント）位のお国柄。信用する方がバカでしょう。

Malik Peiris， a microbiologist at Hong Kong University， said there was a "significant possibility" that domestic poultry in China， the world’s number two producer after America， could be at risk.
（香港大学の微生物学者であるMalik Peiris氏は、アメリカに次ぐ世界第二位の養鶏国中国が（鳥インフルエンザの）脅威に曝されている「大きな可能性」があると語った。）
