正直「お気の毒でございます」としか言いようがない。

何が民主主義のどーのこーのじゃ、嗤わせんな。

西側のメディアはどこもかしこもアホのように嘘泣きだ。

ばっかばかしい…あの民主主義のおしかけ伝道師国家、アメリカの連邦議会ですらシラーッとしてたじゃないか。
オバサンがうろうろと出向いていったのは今年の話だよ。
いつから「パキスタン民主主義の母」になったんだよ（大笑い）。

死人に鞭打つようなことは言いたくないが、本当にムシャラフのおいちゃんは巷で言われているほど極悪非道のヒトラーの化身のような人なんですか、ってことだよ。
ビルマと同じじゃねーか、ぼけ。

一応こんなコラムをテレグラフ紙は掲載したけれども、どっちかっつーと狙いは既に投稿されているようなコメントを引き出すことじゃないか、と思うわけだ。

I am amazed at the praise heaped on Ms. Bhutto in this article when her obituary, in this site, seems to paint a different picture. I think she was just another corrupt darling of the US and UK. Nevertheless, political violence is wrong and nobody should die this way. Violence will only beget more violence. The root of Pakistan’s problems must be addressed not only the bitter fruits like, terrorism, military dictatorship, illiteracy, economic stagnation…etc.

Agents from MI6 entered secret talks with Taliban leaders despite Gordon Brown's pledge that Britain would not negotiate with terrorists, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Officers from the Secret Intelligence Service staged discussions, known as "jirgas", with senior insurgents on several occasions over the summer.

An intelligence source said: "The SIS officers were understood to have sought peace directly with the Taliban with them coming across as some sort of armed militia. The British would also provide 'mentoring' for the Taliban."

Actually, I am a Wodehouse anorak - extremely rare species in Japan, you know?

私はダンボール2箱分ぐらい本を持ち帰ったけれども、Jeeves & Woosterはペーパーバックとはいえ、Vintageの表紙のイラストがお気に入りだったので、このバージョンで全シリーズ集めて帰ってきた。
読むと噴出すので、通勤にはお薦め出来ない。
ポロニウム並に危険だ。
ついでにDVDシリーズはBoxをAmazon.co.ukから引っ張ってきたわけで。

そうか、ロシア人もこの味がわかるのか…妙に満足してしまった。
そういえばYouTubeのスティーヴン・フライ関連とか、ロシア語の映像が結構アップされてるからな～…そうだったのか。
まめな人がファースト・シーズンあたりをアップしていたから、探してみ。
もっとも、ほとんど理解不能だろうとは思うが…1930年代当たりの英語がわかるなら結構ですけどね。

Wodehouse translations have mushroomed and even a souring of Anglo-Russian relations has done little to dim the enthusiasm for this quintessentially English author.

"If you look around on the metro you can see lots of people reading Wodehouse," said Tatyana Komoryeva, a 25-year-old accountant. "All the bookshops, even the small ones, are guaranteed to sell at least some of his books."

That there is a Wodehouse fellowship at all, though, is largely thanks to Natalya Trauberg. A self-taught English speaker, the 79-year-old former dissident risked transportation to the gulags under Stalin for translating the theological works of C S Lewis and G K Chesterton in samizdat.

Her first attempt, the Blandings short story Birth of a Salesman, was also produced in samizdat - not for political reasons but because publishers doubted that there would be any public interest.

It might seem odd that Russians find such an affinity with tales of young upper-class twits stealing policemen's helmets and elderly upper-class twits stealing each other's pigs. After all, Wodehouse - who died in 1975 - only really touches on matters Russian in The Clicking of Cuthbert when a Soviet author recounts how an assassination attempt caused Lenin to miss a two-inch putt whilst playing golf with Trotsky.

警察官のヘルメットを盗む上流階級の若きおばかさんやら、お互いの豚を盗みあう上流階級のおばかな年寄りの物語を、ロシア人がこれほど気に入るのは奇妙かもしれない。

For Mrs Trauberg, however, Russia's love affair with the author is far from surprising. As decades of repression has given way to a new era of cut-throat commercialism, Wodehouse represents a madcap innocence that many Russians yearn to emulate.

しかしロシアのウッドハウス熱は、トラウバーグ夫人にとって当たり前のことだ。
何十年にも亘る抑圧の時代が去り、生き馬の目を抜くような商業主義の新時代が到来する中、ウッドハウスは多くのロシア人が憧れて止まない、盲目的な無邪気さウッドハウスは体現しているのだ。

"Russians need freedom and laughter very much," she said. "They had none for so long. Wodehouse encapsulates this spirit of freedom.

Japan fights back with 60-point master plan

Japan has launched its biggest financial shake-up in a decade to regain lost business from London and meet the fast-rising challenge of Shanghai.

A sweeping package of 60 measures will give special tax exemptions to hedge funds, and allow companies to make simplified disclosures in English rather than Japanese.

It will tear down the archaic barrier between banking and broking, which is widely blamed for relegating Japan to backwater status, without the system of universal banking now prevalent in the US and Europe.

Japan remains the world's biggest creditor nation with some $2.5 trillion (£1.3 trillion) in net foreign assets and a massive $19 trillion pool of domestic savings and household assets, the world's biggest stash of private wealth. Yet it has almost completely lost its footing as a major money centre.

Top-secret details about hundreds of sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects are to be released for public viewing in response to the nation's continuing fascination with the subject.

継続するUFO人気に応じて、数百件のUFO目撃に関する最高機密が公開される。

The Ministry of Defence will release a total of 160 files dating back to that time to the National Archives in Kew.

Mr Pope said that while he was initially sceptical about UFOs, access to the classified files and investigation of a series of spectacular UFO sightings - mainly by police and military personnel - had changed his mind.

One such sighting was of a "vast, triangular-shaped craft" firing a narrow beam of light onto the ground and emitting a low-frequency humming sound that was spotted flying over RAF Cosford in the West Midlands and RAF Shawbury in Shropshire in 1993.

In another incident, at the Twin Bases of RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk in December 1980, RAF staff were sent to investigate a suspected plane crash after bright lights were reported emanating from nearby woods.

Mr Pope said he expected to see similar a flurry of interest in the files, which he predicted would convert some sceptics.

"Whatever people think about UFOs, these documents are fascinating and show how the MoD has researched and investigated this mystery for nearly 60 years, without an answer," he said.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman confirmed the documents would be released from next year. "There has always been a great deal of interest in this subject," she said.
