The newly-regained popularity of François Hollande, boosted by his handling of the Charlie Hebdo attacks last month, is already waning, an opinion poll showed on Sunday.
先月のテロ攻撃の対応に支えられたフランソワ・オランド仏大統領の支持率復活も既に衰えつつあることが、日曜日に公表された世論調査で明らかになりました。
The Ifop poll for the Journal du Dimanche newspaper gave the French president an approval rating of 24 per cent, down from 40 per cent at its post-attack peak barely a month ago, when he bolstered his credibility by organising a march through Paris with dozens of world leaders - up to 1.5 million citizens attended the rally as well.
IFOPによると、フランス大統領の支持率は、発生からまだ一ヶ月も経つか経たないかのテロ事件後に記録された40%から24%まで下落したそうです。
大統領は当時、各国首脳数十名を募り、最大で150万人の市民も駆け付けたパリでの行進を企画して信頼性を強化しました。
Although Mr Hollande remains more popular than he was before the attacks, when his rating slumped to a record low of 13 per cent, the poll will make uncomfortable reading for the Socialist government as it braces for regional elections next month. The far-Right Front National is expected to make further gains.
オランド大統領は史上最低の13%まで落ち込んだテロ事件前よりも高い支持率を維持していますが、これは地方選挙を来月に控える社会党にとって悩ましい数値となるでしょう。

Manuel Valls, the French prime minister, who has consistently remained more popular than the president and whose tough talk on terrorism has struck a chord with the public, is also losing ground, with a seven-point fall to an approval rating of 46 per cent.

Frédéric Dabi of the Ifop polling company said the result reflected continuing but less virulent discontent over Mr Hollande's "inaction" and "lack of results", especially over his failure to lower unemployment. "There's less mockery and fewer insults," Mr Dabi said.

The poll came days after the government bulldozed mild economic reforms through parliament without a vote, against the opposition of the Left-wing of its own party.

The government resorted to a rare and controversial form of decree to avoid a vote, which would have led to the defeat of the reform bill because of the opposition of many hardline Socialist MPs.
政府は議決を回避するため、余り使われておらず異論も多い法令という形式を使いました。
社会党内の多くの強硬派議員の反対により、改革法案は廃案にされたと思われます。
Right-wing MPs swiftly called a vote of no-confidence, which the government won easily as the rebels stopped short of voting their own government out of power.
右派議員は直ぐに不信任案を提出しました。

The reforms, seen as too pro-business by Left-wingers, will make it easier for shops to open on Sundays, open up the legal profession to more competition and speed up dismissal procedures.
左派が余りにも企業寄りだと考えるこの改革によって、店舗が日曜日に営業し易くなり、法律家がより競争にオープンになり、解雇手続きがスピードアップされます。
