Kato, have you taken part in the Polar Bear Swim this year?
Me...? Oh, no!
Why not? June is joining the crowd, isn't she?
Yes, she is.
(june913.jpg)
She was born in the Arctic and brought up in the North. So she doesn't mind the cold weather at all, but I can't take a dip in the cold water.
Why not?
... 'Cause I'll die of heart attack.
No kidding! You're exaggerating, aren't you? There're many beautiful women on the English beach.
(newyear13b.jpg)
I know ... I know ... but I don't wanna die of heart attack. I'm quite serious. I've got a very weak heart. How about you, Diane? Did you go to the English Bay?
No, not really. As you know, I've been quite busy shopping and eating and drinking and getting as FAT as can be!
I know... I know.
Besides, I've been hopping around lunch, brunch, supper and parties with lotsa fun.
I know ... I know.
I just couldn't join the swimming crowd on the English bay.

So ... when you woke up on the New Year's day, your eyes were seeing the party scenes as in the above picture, weren't you?
Yes, Kato, you're telling me.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, ... Well ... Diane, you missed the very important part.
What is it?
Here is what you missed on the New Year's day. Take a good look at the following clip:
HAPPY NEW YEAR,

By the way, Kato, did you enjoy the Japanese New Year's Day?
Yes, of course, I did. See the following clip:

Happy New Year
Yokohama, Japan
<iframe width="500" height="350" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gQIewRHt_xU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I wish I were over there in Yokohama.
Well ... I guess you're kinda homesick.
You're telling me, Kato.
Don't worry, Diane. I've got a nice present for you.
What is it?
Here goes a singing clip:
Myfanwy - Neath Choir
(Welsh-English Lyrics)
<iframe width="500" height="350" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hNtn8B3zz8g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Oh, Kato, have you found it for me?
Yes, of course, I have. By the way, what is Myfanwy?
It is a woman's name derived from annwyl, meaning "beloved." It is a popular Welsh song, composed by Joseph Parry and first published in 1875.
Is that right?
Yes, Parry wrote the music to lyrics written by Richard Davies ('Mynyddog'; 1833-77). Some sources say it was written with Parry's childhood sweetheart, Myfanwy Llywellyn, in mind, although the lyrics were probably inspired by the fourteenth-century love-story of Myfanwy Fychan of Dinas Brân, Llangollen and the poet Hywel ab Einion. That story was also the subject of the popular poem, 'Myfanwy Fychan' (1858), by John Ceiriog Hughes (1832-87).
Inspired by the fourteenth-century love-story, eh?
Yes, they were. The song, although now considered by some rather old-fashioned, is still a favourite with Welsh folks.
Is that right?
Anyway, Kato, I'm glad you remind me of this lovely old song.
My pleasure. I hope you have a Happy New Year.
You, too, Kato.
