Companies in Britain and Europe have failed to place a single high-yield bond since the credit crunch kicked off in August, and may now have to wait until next year before the credit market reopens for business.
イギリスとヨーロッパにある企業は、クレジット・クランチが8月に雄たけびを上げて以来、一つも高利回り債券（つまりジャンク債）を売ることが出来ていない。
それに今では、金融市場の再開店は、来年まで待たなくてはならないかもしれなくなっている。
Société Générale said the monthly volume of junk bond issues peaked at €6.5bn (£4.69bn) in June, falling to zero in August, September, October, and November as investor flight from the market forced up yield spreads to stringent levels.
ソシエテ・ジェネラル曰く、ジャンク債の月間発行量は€65億の6月がピークだったとのこと。
そして投資家が市場から逃げ出し、イールド・スプレッドは厳しい水準まで押し上げられる中、8月、9月、10月、そして11月とゼロになった。
Far from returning to normal, the credit markets appear to tightening even further into the Christmas season.

The Scottish oil and gas exploration firm Melrose Resources shelved a €250m bond issue to help fund drilling in the Nile Delta and East Texas, saying that market conditions were not "optimal". The other was Singapore's semiconductor group United Test and Assembly.

The high-yield market covers companies with a credit rating of BBB- or below. Investment grade bonds in Europe are still finding buyers but the volume has plummeted by half this month to €6.3bn.

The closely-watched iTraxx Crossover index measuring spreads on low to mid-grade corporate debt rose above 400 last week for the time since the Summer, but settled at 374 yesterday.

The US junk bond market has also ground to a halt after holding up better than Europe in September and early October. The US wireless service group Alltel has cancelled a $6bn issue to finance its buy-out by Goldman Sachs and TPG Capital, after repeatedly failing to place chunks of the issue.

The Dutch plastics group Basell shelved a $21bn issue planned for this week needed to fund a merger with Lyondell.
オランダのプラスティック・グループBazellは、Lyondellとの合併の資金調達で今週予定していた分（$210億）を棚上げ。
Nadia Yoshiyama, high-yield strategist at Société Générale, said the main effect of the credit drought so far was to curb takeover and expansion plans.
ソシエテ・ジェネラルのジャンク債ストラテジスト、ナディア・ヨシヤマは、これまでのところ信用枯渇の主な影響は買収や拡大計画を減らしたことだ、と語った。
"They don't have an immediate need for liquidity. Most of them refinanced and paid off bank debt earlier, so they can last into next year," she said.
「直ぐに流動性を必要とすることはない。殆どはさっさと借り替えたり銀行に借金返済したから、来年までなんとかもつ」
と彼女は言った。
