China 'shackle' merchant earns slap on wrist at DSEi defence show

Cruise missiles, tanks, warships, and other weapons capable of inflicting unspeakable damage were all on the display at the massive DSEi defence equipment show in London's Docklands yesterday.
昨日、ロンドンのドックランドで開催された大規模なDSEi防衛装備品展示会には、筆舌に尽くし難いダメージをもたらす弾道ミサイル、戦車、軍艦、その他の兵器が全て展示されていた。
But it was a small display in one corner of the vast auditorium that caught the attention of government officials. A Chinese company - one of two firms from the People's Republic allowed to appear at the controversial show for the first time - was advertising leg irons in its exhibition brochure.
しかし政府当局の視線を捕らえたのは、広大なホールの片隅にある小さな展示物だった。
或る中国の会社（この問題となっている展示会に初めて出展を許可された人民共和国企業2社のうちの1社）が、展示品パンフレットで足枷を宣伝していたのだ。

The promotion of equipment that can be used for torture is forbidden and officials from Revenue & Customs (R&C) and the new Department for Business and Enterprise pounced.
拷問に利用出来る機器のプロモーションは禁止されており、歳入関税局と新設の企業事業省の職員が飛んできた。
The brochures were confiscated and the Chinese company, Famous Glory, may now be removed from the show. It is thought that another exhibitor's stand was raided for also displaying banned equipment or literature.
パンフレットは押収され、この中国企業（フェイマス・グローリー、つまり名高い栄光）は今では展示会から排除されているかもしれない。
同じく禁止されている機器か出版物を展示していたとして、もう一つの出展会社のブースも手入れを受けたと考えられている。
A sales assistant on Famous Glory's stand said that the company had been unsure about the rules and regulations. "It is our first time here," he said, adding: "We do not sell leg irons, we sell clothing."
フェイマス・グローリーのブースの営業は、同社は規則や規制についてよくわかっていなかった、と述べた。
「初めてだし」
と彼は言ってこう付け加えた。
「我々は足枷は売ってない。衣類を売っている」。
The Government and the show's organiser, the publishing and exhibitions group Reed, lay down rules under the 2002 Export Control Act and require all exhibitors to sign agreements they will not promote equipment that could be used for torture.
政府とこの展示会の主催者であり、出版社でも展示会企画グループでもあるリードは、2002年輸出管理法に基づいてルールを決めており、拷問に利用出来るような機器を宣伝しない、との契約への署名を全ての参加者の条件としている。
Reed's security department, along with R&C and other government bodies, secretly monitor exhibitors, from the CD Roms handed out to checking that the guns on display are not loaded with live ammunition.
配られているCD-Romから展示されている銃に弾丸が装填されていないかどうか確認するところまで、R&Cや他の政府機関と共に、リードの警備部門は出展者を密かに監視している。
