North Korea has fired a short-range missile toward waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan as hopes rose of progress in resolving the communist nation's nuclear weapons programme stand-off.
この共産主義国家の核問題の行き詰まりが解決されるのではないかとの希望が高まる中、北朝鮮は朝鮮半島と日本の間にある海に短距離ミサイルを発射した。
The missile with a range of about 62 miles was fired yesterday afternoon Korean time.

An official with South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff played down the launch, saying is believed to be part of the communist regime's "routine drills", but did not elaborate.
