北朝鮮のKim Jong Il の急逝でその後継者として最も若いKim Jong Unが指名され新しい体制が敷かれる事となり、その成り行きには近隣諸国や米国が関心を持って見守っています

"Kim Jong Il picked the apple that didn't fall far from the tree," the official said, speaking on condition fo anonymity in exchange for the details. "He didn't select a successor who he believed would radically depart from his vision for North Korea."
The apple never falls far from the tree. はことわざで「リンゴは木から離れては落ちない：親子は似るもの」の意味だそうです。
すなわち3人の息子の中で自分に似た最も若いKim Jong Unを後継者に指名したという事でした
