Hovis maker Premier Foods has warned that the days of ever-lower food prices may be drawing to an end as production becomes more global and more land is devoted to environmentally friendly fuels.
ホーヴィス（パン）のメーカーであるプレミア・フーズが、製造がよりグローバルになり更に多くの土地がエコ燃料に使われるようになるにつれ、これまでになく食品の価格が安い時代は終わるかも知れない、と警告している。
"But we're now in a period of food inflation not seen since the early 1990s and it's not going to go away quickly."
「しかし我々は今、1990年代初頭以来見られたことのない食品インフレの時代にあり、これは直ぐになくならないだろう」。
Premier, whose stable of products stretches from Branston Pickle to Batchelor's soup, said that it has been grappling with soaring wheat prices over the summer and will this month pass that on to its supermarket customers. Mr Schofield warned that it may lift prices further should wheat prices continue their rise.
定番商品はブランストン・ピクルスからバッチェラーズ・スープまで広がるプレミアは、夏の間は高騰する小麦価格に取り組み、今月その分はスーパーでの小売価格に転嫁すると述べた。

Wheat prices have rocketed more than 50pc in the past three months as demand outstrips supply across the globe. Concern that Russia may try to restrain its wheat exports and dry weather in Australia has fuelled buying of wheat futures contracts.
小麦価格はこの3ヶ月間、世界中で需要が供給を上回って、50%以上の急騰を遂げている。
ロシアが小麦輸出を制限しようとしているかも知れないとの懸念とオーストラリアの干魃が、小麦の先物契約を煽っている。
Mr Schofield said that Premier will await more information on the harvest in North America before deciding on a further price rise. One major retailer has already passed on Premier Food's increase to its customers, lifting the price of loaf of white bread by 8p.
スコフィールド氏は、プレミアは更なる価格引き上げを決定する前に、北米での収穫に関してもっと情報を待つと語った。

Mr Schofield pointed to the use of more and more land to grow environmentally friendly fuels is partly to blame for the reversal in food prices. Besides wheat, the company said that the cost of dairy products and meat is also on the rise.
スコフィールド氏は、益々多くの土地がエコ燃料のために利用されていることが食品価格反転原因の一端を担っている、と指摘した。
小麦の他、乳製品や肉も値上がりしている、と同社は述べた。
The company's warning come alongside its interim results, which saw a 6.8pc increase in pre-tax profits to ￡21.9m for the six months to June 30. Premier, which has added Campbell's and RHM to its stable of businesses since the start of 2006, said that the integration of both companies was on track.

The integration of Campbell's will generate the ￡28m of cost savings outlined at the time of the deal while the acquisition of RHM is set to yield annual savings of ￡85m.

Premier, whose products also include Quorn and Loyd Grossman's stir-in sauces, said it is confident of delivering sales growth of between 1.5pc and 2pc for the full year.

Despite the soaring wheat prices, Mr Schofield said the company is on track to meet the City's full-year forecasts.
