Huawei Technologies, one of China's most ambitious technology firms, is linking with Bain Capital to buy the US telecoms equipment-maker 3Com for $2.2bn (￡1.07bn).
中国で最も野心的なテクノロジー企業の一つHuaweiテクノロジーズは、$22億でアメリカの電話通信機器メーカー3Comを買収すべく、ベイン・キャピタルを手を組んでいる。
The $5.30-a-share deal, if completed, will mark one of the most significant foreign takeovers to date involving a Chinese player, and could spark a fresh battery of protectionist complaints in the US where concerns about a "technology grab" by China have become pronounced.
1株$5.30での買収提案が成立すれば、中国企業が絡むこれまでで最大の外資による買収案件の一つとなるだろう。
そして中国による「テクノロジー獲得」への懸念が顕著になっているアメリカでは、保護主義者から新たに多くの苦情が申し立てられることになるかもしれない。
3Com generates significant revenues from selling telecoms equipment to government departments and agencies, including a large number in the US and some local authorities in Britain. The implications of part-Chinese ownership of that arm of 3Com's business could attract significant scrutiny in Washington.
3Comは、アメリカの多くとイギリスの一部の地方自治体を含め、政府省庁に電話通信機器を販売して物凄い売上を上げている。

Huawei, which made an unsuccessful bid for Britain's Marconi in 2005, is being advised by investment bank UBS, which is also jointly advising Bain alongside Citi and leading the deal's financing.

The lending syndicate includes Bank of China, HSBC, ABN Amro, UBS and Citi, according to a US banking source. Goldman Sachs is advising the board of 3Com.

Huawei will acquire a minority stake in 3Com, with which it operated a joint venture in China, now called H3C, before the US firm took full control of it last year.

Canada's Nortel Networks was also understood to have been interested in buying 3Com but faced a non-compete agreement between Huawei and 3Com over their former joint venture.

The Chinese company, which is privately owned and operates from a huge campus in the southern city of Shenzhen, has corporate relationships of varying degrees with companies including BT and Vodafone.
