Volunteer activities should be required in high school. If students spend a couple of hours every week volunteering, they will learn important lessons about life that they cannot learn in the classroom. Volunteering will teach them about their city and community and let them meet people they normally would not meet. It will also teach them compassion. When students see that other people are struggling, it gives them a new perspective on their own live.
ボランティア活動は断固高校でも実施すべきである。毎週数時間ボランティア活動にいそしむことで、学生は生きる上で大切な実に多くのことを学ぶことになるだろう。もちろん、これらは教室で学ぶことは不可能である。ボランティア活動をすることで、自分の住んでいる町や地域のことが鮮明になるだろうし、通常出会うことのない人々とも接する機会を得るだろう。また、思いやりを持つ心も学べるかもしれない。生きることに努力が必要な人に触れた学生は、新たな観点を持って自己の人生を歩むことができるだろう。

Many students also go to cram school after their classes. Some practice sports on the weekend. Adding another activity to their busy schedule would be a very bad idea. If students are interesting in volunteering, they can do it outside of school. It is not a good idea to put even more pressure on students who are already busy as it is.

I think volunteer activities had better be required in high school because I have already done such activities. The volunteer activity I’m interested in is spending time with elderly people. Most (of them) are healthy and rich enough to support themselves, but they are often very lonely and need someone to talk to. today people are so busy that they cannot sit down to older people; therefore, I’d like to visit old people’s homes in an attempt to make them a little less lonely and their lives a little longer.
私はボランティアの経験があります。だから言えるのですが、ボランティアを高校でもすべきだと思います。私は老人たちと楽しく過ごすことに興味があります。みなさんとってもお元気で、十分自活できるくらい経済面でも余裕があります。しかし孤独で話し相手がほしいと思っておられます。現代人はとても忙しく、ゆっくり座って老人たちとお話することもできないでしょう。だから私はご老人のお宅にお邪魔し、少しでも孤独感を和らげ、少しでも長生きしてもらいたいと思っています。

Do you sincerely believe these classes are essential? Are music classes really needed in Japanese high school? Do you genuinely believe these classes are indispensable?
I think it is important for high school students, who are still immature, in terms of both physical and mental aspect, to do everything given to them for the sake of their development. There is no doubt about the idea that children must eat without complaining their likes and dislikes. Their complaints may prevent them from growing well. The same is true of this case. They are too young to judge whether their actions or thoughts are appropriate or valid to the society, which has a long custom operated by matured people from both economical and social perspective. Those who think that to think for oneself and to do for oneself is a good thing unconditionally are the very silly creatures. Only when they are mature enough to learn what is good and what is bad, they are allowed to think and do on their own. Consequently, whole people in Japan should take responsibility to make high school students do volunteer activities.
高校生に奉仕活動をせ使めること、大いに賛成である。日本の高校に本来英語の授業は必要なのであろうか。真に必要だと思われるか。日本の高校生が学校で音楽の授業を受けることが全うだとお思いか。真に左様に思われるのか。心身両面から鑑み、未熟な感を拭えぬ高校生が無心に課題に取り組むことに十分意義がある。これは自己の発達のために不可欠なのだ。子供は好き嫌いに関わらず出されたものを食すのが正しいとの考えに異論はないだろう。食べ物の好き嫌いが後々の成長を阻害する蓋然性があるからである。同様のことが此の事例についても当てはまる。高校生とは言え未だ未熟な者は、自己の行動や思考が社会において認知され得るに足るものであるかどうか判断がつかぬであろう。社会とは長い歴史を持ち、経済的にも社会的にも成熟した大人によって確立されてきたものである。この点に於いて自ずから考え行動することを無条件に良しと考える者は、実に愚かな生き物なのである。彼らが成長し、善悪の判断がつくようになって初めて自ら考え行動することが許されるのだ。従って、日本国民全員が責任を持って高校生に奉仕活動をせ使めるべきである。
