ロマンティッシュ・シュトラーセの町々（４）Dunkelsbuhl、その旧市街の写真

ヨーロッパを車で旅をしていると時々中世時代そのままの町や村を通過することがあります。

このDunkelsbuhlはシュツットガルトからローテンブルグへ通った折にいつも通り過ぎる町で、ロマンティッシュ・シュトラーセに沿った中世そのままの町です。

町に入ると下の写真のように狭い道を自転車や歩行者がゴチャゴチャと通っています。車は注意深く徐行しながら、中世以来のデコボコな石畳の道路を走ります。

旧市街には、まん中の写真のような古いホテルがあります。

何度か通過していると一番下の写真に見るようなお祭りがあって、旧市街地区は通行禁止になっていることに往生したこともありました。城壁の外側を急拵えの回り道を通って大きな道へ出ました。

ドイツの中世の町々の旧市街の多くは高い城壁に囲まれていて、良く昔のままに保存されています。鉄道の駅は城壁の外側に作ります。この旧市街の外側に新しい住宅やビルを作り、新市街を作ります。従って中世の町と近代の街が並んで存在しています。旧市街には毎朝、農民の開く朝市があります。スーパーマーケットや大型量販店は存在しません。それらは城外の新市街地区にあるのです。

日本では古い街は取り壊して、どんどん新しい建物を作ります。わずかに木曽路の馬籠宿や妻籠宿、そして奈良井宿など、そして会津の大内宿が例外的によく保存されているに過ぎません。この違いはドイツ文化を深く理解するとき重要なことと思っています。
