竹籠を模した一輪挿、ミスターマスダ作。

庭の小手鞠を手折り活けてみた。器に良く似合う。
A single-flower vase designed to resemble a bamboo basket. It is a Rosanjin-style copying made by Mr. Masuda.
I tried arranging Kodemari-sou hand-picked from the garden in the vase. The flower suits the vase very well.

ハーブガーデンというのは大袈裟だが、ミセス・マスダは彼女がクックする料理に必要なハーブ、
チャイブ・オレガノ・レモングラス・フエンネル・セージ・ローズマリー・ミント等々
十五種類ほど鉢植えにして揃えている。
春を迎えてその緑が大層美しい。
It may be an exaggeration to call it a "herb garden," but Mrs. Masuda has about fifteen different potted herbs, including chives, oregano, lemongrass, fennel, sage, rosemary, mint, and so on, all of which she needs for cooking.

白い花は鳶尾、年々花数が増え今年は十輪ほど咲いた。御近所に差し上げたり等々、僅かではあるが・・・、
そして、白山吹。 黄色い花は一重山吹。
少しずつ季節が移っている。
The white flowers are irises(Ichi-hatsu), and their number has increased year by year. This year, about ten blooms appeared. Although it is not much, I gave some to the neighbors and so on...
And then, there are the white kerria japonica flowers(shiro-Yamabuki). The yellow flowers are single-flowered kerria japonica(yamabuki).
The season is gradually changing.

近所の三ッ池公園の桜が満開だという情報は入っていたが天候が悪く花見の機会を逸していた。
漸く天候が回復したので雲の合間を縫って花見に出かけた。
残念ながら花は盛りは過ぎていたが十分楽しめた。
３月２９日
一番下の孫娘の誕生記念に植えた桃、二十二年経った。
孫娘も桃の木も、それは、それは大きくなった。
桃の花の美しさにも孫娘の若さにも幸せを享受してきた年月である。

十月末頃から咲く早咲きの椿や四月初旬に咲く遅咲きの椿、我家には十二、三種類の椿があるが
今、咲いている七、八種類の椿をダイニングテーブルに飾り春を楽しんでいる。

白木蓮が花時をむかえている。
長子の結婚に続いて二年後次男が結婚した。
三月、結納を取り交わした折に記念に植えた白木蓮も以来二十八年、
美しい花を見せてくれる。
The yulan of the fence (white mokuren) of our home has begun to bloom.
It is the yulan which we set in memory when the second son got engaged 28 years ago.

父と母が好んでめでていた木瓜が美しい。
「寒木瓜」と聞いていたが寒が明けた頃から咲き出して此処一か月ほど咲き続けている。
この明るく美しい朱の色に力付けられる明け暮れである。
