ＳＤＣＣのジュゴン保護を求める意見書の英訳です

2/19、この掲示板でジュゴン保護を求める意見書の提出をの
呼びかけをしましたが、このほどＳＤＣＣの提出した意見を英訳しました。

＜理由＞ <Explanation>
１．国際自然保護連合（ＩＵＣN)
においても三度沖縄ジュゴンの保護と保護計画の策定を勧告しています。
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Congress has
made three separate recommendations calling for the protection of the
dugong and policy measure to be taken.

２．日本政府でも小泉内閣が「沖縄のジュゴンの保護に関する質問主意書」（岩佐恵美参議院議員）への答弁書で、
「沖縄ジュゴンは種の保存法の国内希少野生動植物種に選定されうる種に該当する」（２００４年７月１３日第３３号）
としています。
The Japanese government under the Koizumi Administration formally
acknowledged in writing, “The Okinawa dugong is one species that could
be qualified to receive the status of National Endangered Species of
Wild Fauna and Flora” (July 13,2004: No. 33) in response to written
questions put forward by House of Councilors representative Emi Iwasa
regarding the protection of the Okinawan Dugong.

３．２００７年に環境省レッドリストにⅠＡ類として追加指定しました。
In 2007, the dugong was classified as “critically endangered” on the
Ministry of the Environment’s Red List.

４．昨年２０１０年国際ジュゴン年には、沖縄ジュゴンを種の保存法に指定することを求める
４万５千人の署名提出を提出しています。また、地元、名護市民からも種の指定を求める声が上がっています。
A petition was submitted with 45,000 signatures calling for a law
to protect the Okinawan dugong during last year’s International Year
of the Dugong (2010). Furthermore, Nago City residents, who live near
the dugong habitat, are also raising their voices for such a law to be
enacted.
