疫病神ゴーディーに誉められると悪いことが起こる気がするから特にイヤです。

The chief executive of Japanese car maker Nissan, who for years has criticised Britain's refusal to join the euro for its impact on manufacturing operations, has announced a major investment in the company's plant in Sunderland. The company is to make a ￡55m investment to build a new compact sports utility vehicle at its north-east England site from 2010.
イギリスのユーロ導入拒絶の製造業に対する影響を何年も前から批判してきた、日本の車メーカー日産のCEOは、同社のサンダーランド工場への大規模投資を発表した。
イングランド北東部の工場で2010年から新しいコンパクトSUVを生産すべく、日産は￡5,500万の投資を行う予定だ。
Carlos Ghosn has previously warned that Nissan would not commit to building new models at Sunderland without assurance that the UK would move towards joining the single currency. However, the company has introduced a new invoice system to pass exchange-rate risk on to its suppliers. The company says the currency issue is no longer relevant.
カルロス・ゴーンはイギリスが統一通貨導入へ向けて動くという約束がない限り、日産は新型モデルをサンダーランドで生産しない、とこれまで警告してきた。
しかし同社はサプライヤーへの為替レート・リスクを回避する、新しい請求システムを導入した。
通貨問題はもう関係ない、としている。
The new model will replace the subcompact class Micra, whose production is being moved to a factory to be built in Chennai, India, by Nissan's majority-owner Renault.
新型モデルは、生産が日産の大株主ルノーがインドのChennaiに建設する工場に移転される、サブコンパクト・クラスのマイクラと入れ替わることとなる。
Nissan's investment in the Sunderland plant comes with a ￡6.2m aid package from the UK Government.
日産のサンダーランド工場投資には、イギリス政府から￡620万相当の補助金が与えられる。
Mr Ghosn said yesterday: "By delivering on tough commitments, our employees at Sunderland have demonstrated our plant can be a globally competitive centre for the production of high-value products." In the year to March 31, the Sunderland factory produced a record 374,076 Micras, Qashqai SUVs and Note hatchbacks, up 24pc on the previous year.
ゴーン氏は昨日「厳しいコミットメントを実践することで、我が社のサンダーランド工場従業員は、この工場が世界的に競争力のある高付加価値製品の生産拠点たり得ることを示した」と語った。

Nissan sells about 80pc of vehicles produced in Sunderland outside Britain, making it the country's biggest vehicle exporter. Together with its engine plant and other facilities, it employs about 4,700 workers in Sunderland.
日産はサンダーランド工場で生産された車両の約80%をイギリス国外で販売しており、同国最大の車輸出会社となっている。
エンジン工場やその他の施設を合わせると、同社はサンダーランドで約4,700人を雇用している。
Nissan said in January that it would add 800 staff and begin a third production shift in Sunderland in response to strong demand for the Qashqai model. Under a business plan announced last month, Nissan had said it would source and build its new entry-level subcompact cars such as the Micra in five low-cost countries, including India and Thailand.
日産は1月、Qashqaiモデルの堅調な需要に応じて、サンダーランドで更に800人を採用し、3つ目の生産シフトを開始すると述べていた。
先月発表された事業計画の下、インドとタイを含む低コスト諸国5カ国で、マイクラのような新しいエントリー・レベルのサブコンパクト車を生産する、と日産は発表していた。
Yesterday's announcement was made during a visit by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to Nissan's European design headquarters in west London.
昨日の発表は、ゴードン・ブラウン首相のロンドン西部にある日産ヨーロッパ・デザイン本部訪問中に出された。
Mr Brown said the move would guarantee jobs and bolster the UK's manufacturing sector.
ブラウン氏は、雇用を保証しイギリスの製造業を強化するだろう、と語った。
"I'm delighted to congratulate Nissan on this new model, which will bring to Sunderland something that's going to guarantee jobs in the distant future.
「長期に亘って雇用を保証するものをサンダーランドにもたらすこの新型モデルについて、日産には喜んでお祝いを申し上げる」。
"Sunderland's success shows what an innovative, talented and highly committed workforce can achieve, and re-affirms the UK's position as a strong player in the global car industry," the Prime Minister said.
「サンダーランドの成功は、革新的で才能があり、非常に努力する労働力が何を達成出来るか示しているし、世界的な車産業における強力なプレーヤーというイギリスのポジションを再確認している」と首相は語った。

The North East Chamber of Commerce said the decision was an incredible feat considering the trend for mass-production manufacturing to be relocated to lower-cost bases abroad.
ノースイースト商工会議所は、大量生産活動の海外の低コスト国への移転傾向を考えれば、この決断は素晴らしい偉業だと述べた。
Chief executive James Ramsbotham said: "That Nissan has retained such a competitive edge in an increasingly competitive industry demonstrates that manufacturing in Britain can be cost-effective while delivering a quality product that is superior to cheaper alternatives manufactured abroad."

Roger Maddison, national officer at Unite, Britain's biggest trade union, said the announcement was "fantastic news", adding: "It will safeguard more than 1,200 jobs at a time when Nissan will move production of the Micra to India. This proves once again that, given the opportunity, the UK can remain a strong manufacturing base for the world's top producers."
イギリス最大の労組UNITEのナショナル・オフィサー、ロジャー・マディソンはこの発表を「素晴らしいニュース」と述べ「日産がマイクラの生産をインドに移す時に、1,200人以上の雇用をまもることになる。これはチャンスさえ与えられれば、イギリスが世界最高のメーカーにとって強力な生産拠点であり続けられる、ということを再び証明している」と付け加えた。
Nissan said it was too early to release an image of the new car, but issued a basic artist's brush-stroke image of how the model may look. With just three black strokes, the car appeared to be compact, with sleek lines.
日産は新型車の画像を公開するのは時期尚早だと述べたが、デザイナーの手書きの絵を参考に出した。
3本の黒い線が引かれただけのもので、コンパクトでスリムな感じだった。
