Prince Harry put his soldiering skills to good use as part of a rebuilding project in southern Africa - but also found time for a game of football during a well-earned break.
ハリー王子は軍隊で身に付けた技術を、アフリカ南部再建プロジェクトの一環として有効活用している。
しかししっかり働いた後はサッカーを楽しむ。
Prince Harry is in Lesotho to see how his charity's helping some of the world's poorest children.
ハリー王子はレソトにいる。
自分の慈善団体がどんな風に世界で最も貧しい子ども達を助けているのか見にきたのだ。
The 23-year-old has returned to Lesotho, a place close to his heart and the home of his charity Sentebale, set up in his mother's memory.
23歳になる王子は、レソトに戻ってきた。
ここはいつも忘れたことのない場所であり、母を記念して設立した自身の慈善団体Sentebaleの本拠地だ。
He is spending three weeks in the African kingdom with more than 20 colleagues from the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals to help refurbish a special needs school.
彼は特殊養護学校の改修を手伝うために、王室騎兵隊ブルーズ・アンド・ロイヤルズ連隊の仲間20人以上と共に、アフリカの王国で3週間を過ごしている。
The third in line to the throne looked perfectly at home as he pitched in with the hard manual labour, as he helped to build a ramp for disabled children to access the building.
骨の折れる肉体労働をする、障害のある子ども達が建物の中に入れるようにスロープを作るのを手伝うのも、王位継承第3位の王子は全く手馴れた様子だった。
Dressed in a t-shirt, chinos and sturdy walking shoes, he waited patiently in line to fill his wheelbarrow with cement, before pushing it through the bumpy terrain to pour into the foundation trench for the ramp.
Tシャツにチノパン、丈夫そうなウォーキング・シューズを身に着けた彼は、手押し車をセメントで一杯にするのを列に並んで辛抱強く待っていた。

He also dug ditches and donned a mask and goggles as he used a claw hammer to bang nails into wooden planks in the ceiling of the school's dining room.

During a break, the Prince enthusiastically took part in a dusty game of football and found himself wearing the football colours of his brother Prince William's team Aston Villa, even though he is an Arsenal fan.

The Thuso Centre, which cares for 43 children with profound physical and mental disabilities, is the only one of its kind in Lesotho.

The Prince, a lieutenant in the Household Cavalry, said Sentebale was designed to support such projects.

"As long as we can keep funding, we can make a massive, massive difference.

"This is the only mentally handicapped school within Lesotho and once the project is finished we hope to make another in the centre and one in the south.

"The children of Lesotho, the vulnerable children of Lesotho, that's what we're working towards."

Asked if his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, would be proud of his efforts, he joked: "I hope so. If she didn't what sort of mother would she be?"
母親である故ダイアナ妃は彼の働きを誇りに思われるでしょうね、と言われると彼はこう冗談を言った。
「そう願いたいね。じゃなかったらどんな母親だってことさ」。
The Prince is also helping educate the children about Aids and HIV.
王子はまた、子ども達へのエイズ・HIV教育も支援している。
"A vast quantity of the population don't accept they have Aids," he said. "If you accept you have Aids it's a treatable disease.
「物凄い数の人がエイズにかかっていると認めていない」と彼は言った。

"Everybody needs to accept there's a problem in Africa, problems at home. We need to get on with it and do what's necessary to help."

The 25-strong British team will remain at the Thuso Centre for three weeks, carrying out the equivalent of 360 man days of work.

The Household Cavalry group has been touring southern Africa over the past five weeks - an expedition designed to boost the leadership skills and confidence of the younger members of the group.

グループの若手メンバーのリーダーシップ・スキルと自信の強化を目指した遠征だ。
The Prince joined them for the last two weeks as they travelled through Botswana and Namibia before reaching Lesotho.

The children's charity, The Burnaby Blue Foundation, has sponsored the soldiers' expedition and also donated ￡17,000 to help with the refurbishment costs of the school.

Sentebale is providing the remaining ￡71,000 needed to finish off the work.

The Prince’s shirt came from Westfields Football Club in Hereford, which plays in the amateur Midlands Football Alliance, and was donated by the football charity Kick 4 Life.
