Developing nations are creating "a modern day Silk Road" of trade routes between each other, making their economies less dependent on exports to the West.
開発途上国は各国をつなぐ通商路、「現代版シルクロード」を生み出し、経済の対欧米輸出依存を軽減しつつある。
Stephen King, HSBC's chief economist, identified the shifting powerbase in the bank's quarterly Emerging Markets Index. "The biggest increase in trade patterns in recent years has been between emerging nations," he said. "Perhaps... we're witnessing a modern-day recreation of the old Silk Road, linking nations together that had forgotten to trade with each other."
HSBCのチーフ・エコノミスト、スティーヴン・キング氏は、HSBCの四半期新興市場指数にパワーベースのシフトを見出した。

Their waning dependence on exports to the West is speeding up the decoupling of emerging markets from developed ones. In addition, "emerging nations have mostly escaped the legacy of excessive debts which hampered their performance in the past," Mr King said.
対欧米輸出依存の衰えは、新興市場と先進国市場の分断を加速している。
それに加えて、「新興諸国は、過去に自分達の足を引っ張った過剰債務の後遺症を概ね免れた」とキング氏は言った。
Warning of stagnation in the West, he claimed developing markets "should not face the same financial constraints which will keep a lid on economic activity in the developed world in the years ahead".
キング氏は欧米の低迷を警告し、開発途上市場は「今後何年間にも亘って先進国の経済活動に蓋をする財政難には見舞われないだろう」と主張した。
The Index dropped for the first time since the recovery kicked in as large emerging nations such as China and Brazil began fiscal tightening to cool down their overheating economies. However, with a rate of 55.8 the index is still growing strongly.
中国やブラジルといった大型の新興諸国が、加熱する経済を抑制するために財政引き締めを始め、新興市場指数が景気回復開始以来初めて下落した。
しかし、55.8という指数は、経済成長が今も堅調であることを示している。
Mr King warned that the developing world would not come to the rescue of the West. However, he added there is a risk of a future "carry trade" as cheap capital in the West is put to use in emerging markets.
キング氏は、開発途上国は欧米を助けに来ないだろうと警告した。
しかし、今後欧米の安価な資本が新興市場に投入され、「キャリートレード」が行われるリスクがあると付け加えた。
