Jeremy Paxman said working with the BBC was like living in Stalin's Russia last night as he launched a scathing attack on his employer.
苛烈な攻撃を雇用主に開始する中、ジェレミー・パクスマンは昨夜、BBCで働くことはスターリン政権下のロシアで暮らすようなものだと語った。
The Newsnight presenter accused the corporation of staking its future on "one five-year plan, one resoundingly empty slogan after another".
『ニュースナイト』の司会者は同社は将来を「五カ年計画、スローガンまたスローガンをぶち上げること」に賭けている、と批判した。
He said management initiatives such as One BBC, Making it Happen and Creative Futures all "blur into one great vacuous blur".
彼は『BBC…実現し、皆のクリエイティブな未来』のような経営陣のイニシアティヴは「馬鹿でかい空っぽの曖昧に突っ込んでいく曖昧」と言った。

"I can't even recall what the current one is," Paxman said during the landmark MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh television festival.
「今のがなんなのか思い出すことも出来ない」。
パクスマンはエジンバラＴＶフェスティバルで、有名なマクタガート講義の間にそう語った。
"Rather like Stalin's Russia, they express a belief that the system will go on forever."
「スターリン政権下のロシアみたいなもんだ。あいつらはシステムが永遠に続くという信念を表明している」。
He went on to claim that the BBC could not count on winning the licence fee again, especially in light of the recent scandal over premium-rate phone-in competitions and the furore over a wrongly edited trailer of the Queen.
彼は続けて、特に先日の電話料金のかかる懸賞へ視聴者に電話をかけさせたスキャンダルや、『Queen』の予告編を不当に編集したことへの大騒ぎを考えてみれば、BBCは再び使用料獲得にはかけられないだろうと主張した。
コミック・リリーフとか、チルドレン・イン・ニードとか、まあ24時間ＴＶみたいなものを昔からやっているのですが、ここで電話をかける懸賞をやってるんですね。
で、この当選者がぜーーーんぶ嘘だった、と。
もろに詐欺です、詐欺。
高邁な思想をうたいあげて、一般人のチャリティ精神を利用した、非道な詐欺です。
で、一個発見されると次から次へと、出るわ出るわ。

そして、当然ながらモーレツにぶっ叩かれ始めたわけです。
ざまーみろ、日本のこといっつもボロクソに書きおって、この真性アカめ！
と思っていたら、パクスマンが「スターリン国家」だってさ（爆笑）。
He said the licence fee was in danger of being scrapped because it is an outdated concept which belonged to the 1950s. "Why not tax people for owning a washing machine to fund the manufacture of Persil?" he said.
彼は、使用料など1950年代の時代遅れコンセプトなので、廃止の危機にさらされていると語った。
「洗剤メーカーに資金調達をしてやるために、洗濯機を持っている人に税金かけたらどうだ？」。
そらそーだ（笑）。
やっぱこのおったんは恐いわ。
Paxman also attacked senior broadcasting executives for allowing younger producers to take the blame for the fake phone-in competitions which have undermined viewers' trust.
パクスマンはまた、BBCの上級取締役が、視聴者の信頼を損なった偽の電話懸賞の責任を、若いプロデューサーに押し付けた、と攻撃した。
He said anyone found guilty of defrauding the public should face prosecution and be sacked.
市民に詐欺行為を行った罪が判明したものは処分され、解雇されるべきだ、と彼は言った。
"We've had the preposterous spectacle of some of the most senior figures in broadcasting running around like maiden aunts who've walked in on some teenage party, affecting shock and disbelief at what they've heard," he said.
「若者のパーティーに入り込んで、耳にすることをびっくりしただの信じられない、といったふりをする行かず後家のオバサンのように放送局を運営する幹部数名が、走り回る、という飛んでもない光景を目にした」。
He also spoke out against the BBC's current budget strategy, known in the industry as "salami slicing", in which every channel and programme suffers a limited cut in its budget to try to save ￡2 billion over the next six years.
また、彼はBBCの現在の予算戦略についても反論した。
業界では「サラミ・スライス」として知られており、各チャンネルや番組が次の6年以上に亘って￡20億以上を節約しようと、予算カットに苦しんでいる。
Paxman has criticised his employer before.
パクスマンは以前にも雇用主を批判している。
He recently accused the BBC of hypocrisy in reporting on the environment while engaging in "laughable" recycling practices.
彼は先日BBCが、「お笑いぐさの」リサイクルをやりながら、環境についての報道をやるとは偽善だ、として批判していた。
He has also been outspoken about the BBC's management, criticising the cost-cutting drive by director-general Mark Thompson, and has raised an eyebrow at some of the innovations, such as podcasts.
更に、彼はBBC経営陣について歯に衣着せず、マーク・トンプソン局長率いるコスト・カットを批判し、ポッドキャストのような幾つかのイノベーションにも眉を顰めている。
