Boris Berezovsky, the exiled Russian oligarch, has been found dead at his Berkshire home.

亡命中のロシア人オリガルヒ、ボリス・ベレゾフスキー氏が、バークシャー州の自宅で死亡しているのを発見されました。

Police are investigating the circumstances of his sudden "unexplained" death. An ambulance was called at about 3.20pm to his house in Ascot after his bodyguard found him.

警察は突然の「原因不明」の死に至った状況を捜査中。
午後3時20分、ボディーガードが同氏を発見後、アスコットの自宅に救急車が要請された。

Friends said Mr Berezovsky had been "destroyed" by losing a ￡3billion legal action with his former business partner, Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club.

友人等曰く、ベレゾフスキー氏は元ビジネス・パートナーのロマン・アブラモヴィッチ氏との法廷闘争に負けて30億ポンドを失い「破滅」していたとのこと。

Despite a 13-year battle with the Kremlin and numerous assassination attempts, it was claimed that he may have taken his own life after suffering from severe depression.

13年間のクレムリンとの法廷闘争や暗殺未遂事件にも拘わらず、重度のうつ病を患っていたことから、自殺したのではないかと言われている。

Mr Berezovsky, 67, had been living in exile in Britain since 2000. He was given asylum in 2003, a move which created diplomatic tensions between London and Moscow.

2003年に亡命を認められ、英露政府間に外交的緊張をもたらした。

Reports claimed that he was found dead in his bath, possibly after committing suicide. Once worth as much as ￡3billion, he had suffered financial and personal problems, his friends said. News of Mr Berezovsky's death emerged in a posting on Facebook by his son-in-law, Egor Schuppe. Mr Schuppe posted the simple message: "Boris Berezovsky is dead."

報道によれば、浴槽で、恐らく自殺を図った後、死亡しているのが発見されたとのこと。
かつては30億ポンド長者だったが、金銭的、個人的問題に見舞われ苦しんでいたと友人達。
同氏の死亡に関するニュースは、義理の息子であるEgor Schuppe氏がフェイスブックに書き込んで明らかになった。
Schuppe氏は「ボリス・ベレゾフスキーは死んだ」とだけ書き込んだ。

His sudden death will inevitably lead to speculation of darker motives. Mr Berezovsky, an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, had long feared for his life.

突然の死は否応なくより悪意ある動機の憶測をもたらすだろう。

He had been due to be a witness at the inquest next month into the death of Alexander Litvinenko, the former KGB spy who was murdered in 2006 after being poisoned by radioactive polonium-210 in what is believed to have been a Kremlin-sanctioned assassination.

同氏は来月、元KGBスパイで2006年にポロニウム210で暗殺されたアレクサンダー・リトビネンコ氏の死に関する公聴会で、証言する予定だった。

Mr Putin's spokesman said the Russian president had been informed of Mr Berezovsky's death. The spokesman claimed that in recent weeks the oligarch had written a letter to Mr Putin "asking for forgiveness" and seeking "help to return to the motherland".

プーチン大統領の広報担当者によれば、大統領はベレゾフスキー氏の死について知らされていたとのこと。
担当者は、数週間前にベレゾフスキー氏はプーチン大統領に「許しを求め」、「帰国するための助け」を求める書簡を送っていたと主張。

Russia's Channel One state television claimed that Mr Berezovsky had suffered several heart attacks during the past week.

Lord Bell, the PR executive who had acted as Mr Berezovsky's spokesman and was also a good friend, told The Sunday Telegraph that he had last seen the oligarch three weeks ago. "He was extremely depressed," said Lord Bell.

ベレゾフスキー氏のスポークスマンであり良き友人のPRエグゼクティブ、ロード・ベルはサンデー・テレグラフ紙に、前回同氏に会ったのは3週間前だと語った。
