Taking a regular walk can help recovery from a stroke, according to a study.
Those who do so feel healthier, have better endurance and a lower resting heart rate, found researchers at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica.
They studied the health of 128 adult stroke survivors, who were split into two groups.
The first went on a "brisk outdoor walk" three times a week, and the second had massage but no supervised exercise.
After three months their health was compared. The walking group reported a sizeable improvement in quality of life, based on their physical health, they were able to walk faster and had lower resting heart rates.
Carron Gordon, lead author of the study, published in the journal Stroke, said: "Walking is a great way to get active after a stroke. It's familiar, inexpensive, and it's something people could very easily get into."
