An exhibition of Shinto religious art opened at the Cleveland Museum of Art Tuesday.
It features 125 pieces, including folding screens and sculpture from the 8th century through the 19th century. It was curated from U.S. and Japanese museums as well as shrines across Japan.
A sculpture of a seated deity from a shrine in the old Japanese capital of Nara is among the exhibits. It's designated as a national important cultural property and is on loan outside Japan for the first time.
