CARLOS GHOSN ARRESTED日産ゴーン会長 逮捕

2018年12月05日 | 爺英語

We begin in Japan, where Nissan Motor's high-profile chairman Carlos Ghosn has been arrested amid allegations that he vastly underreported his salary. Prosecutors are currently combing through the automaker's headquarters in Yokohama.
Tokyo prosecutors allege Ghosn reported earning 40 million dollars in salary over a five-year period. But they say he actually earned double that.
Nissan says Ghosn also used company assets for personal purposes, and it has linked company director Greg Kelly to the misconduct. Kelly has also been arrested.
President and CEO Hiroto Saikawa said he will convene the board of directors on Thursday and dismiss Ghosn and Kelly. Saikawa says the allegations came to light following an internal probe sparked by a whistle blower.
Ghosn became Nissan's president in 2000 and led its turnaround from near-bankruptcy to profitability by aggressively cutting costs. He became Nissan's chairman in 2017 after stepping down as its president and CEO.
