私が子供の頃
母親が良く口にする言葉がありました。
それは
１センを笑う物は１センに泣く
でした
当時の沖縄はアメリカの占領下にあって
ドルを使っていました
1センと言えば１セントでしたから
その教えは私たちの頭に染み付いています。
意味は理解できていますが
不思議でしたよね
当時１セントですらいつも手元にある訳ではないし
その１セントで色んな駄菓子が買えましたので
バカにする人なんかいませんから
その言葉は実態に合わない
そう感じていました。
母親が口にしてた１センが
実は1銭だってのは
横浜に来てから知りました。
日本では円を使ってたのは分かっていましたが
最小単位は１円だと思っていましたが
実際には実物は存在しない銭と言う単位があると分かった時には
ドルの最小単位は１セントでその下の単位はありませんでしたから
子供の頭では理解するのに時間がかかりました。
１銭を笑う物は１銭に泣く
これも母親独自の言葉だと思っていましたが
日本では昔から良く語られて教えだってのもその時に分かりました。
まぁそんな訳で
私自身は子供の頃からお金を粗末にする事の罪悪感が
しっかり頭に刻まれていますから
今でも１円玉だからと言って
粗末に扱う事はできません。
で
不動産屋をしていて
この１銭を笑う物は１銭に泣く
この言葉の重みを本当に実感出来きました。
どうしてか？
って言うと
私たちがたくさん目にしてきた
お金に困窮してる人達
この人たちが夜逃げ同然で出て行った部屋を片付けると
日々の暮らしに困ってるはずなのに
小銭がたくさん捨てられてる事が本当に多いのです。
つまり言い換えれば
小銭をバカにする生き方が
厳しい人生になった
これがはっきり見て取れるのです。
そんな訳で
お金に困ってる方達
まず自分の内面を見つめた方が良いと思いますね。
小銭をバカにする人には
お金は寄ってこない
この位に思った方が良いでしょう。
１円玉に限らず
仕事でも小さな仕事をバカにする者には
大きな仕事は寄ってこない
これも真理だと思っています。
その意味では当社の社員はしっかり私の考えを理解しています。
全員数千円の駐車場の契約も手を抜かずにやりますし
億単位の契約もやります。
その億単位の仕事
当社で言えばほとんどが家主がらみでまとまって行きますが
私たちが日ごろ駐車場の仕事を手を抜かずにやってるのを見てるから
大きな仕事も任せてもらえるのです。
不動産屋でも
小さな仕事をバカにする者に
大きな仕事は寄ってこない
そんな風に思った方が良いでしょう。
当社は広告も出さないのに
売買が良くまとまってますが
私たちの日々の姿勢の結果
私はそう確信しています。
さて
またゴミ屋敷から
大量の小銭が見つかりました
これから私がコツコツと
スーパーで使ったり
ATMで入金したりと
時間をかけて使う事になります。

I understood the meaning, but it was strange.

and we could buy all kinds of cheap snacks with that one cent,
so no one would make fun of penny,
and I felt that the phrase didn't really fit the reality.
I found out after coming to Yokohama that the one sen my mother was talking about was actually one sen.
I knew that in Japan they used yen,
but I thought the smallest was one yen,
but when I found out that there was called sen, which didn't actually exist,
The smallest of dollar currency was one cent,
and there were no lower than that,
so it took me a while to understand as a child.
I thought that "those who laugh at one sen will cry over one sen" was a phrase my mother,s own word
but I realized at that time that it was a teaching that had been often spoken in Japan for a long time.
Well, that's why, since I was a child, I've felt guilty about wasting money,
so even now, I can't treat it carelessly, even though it's a 1 yen coin.
So, as a real estate agent, I really felt the importance of the words, "He who laughs at this 1 yen will cry over it."
Why?
I've seen so many people who are struggling financially.
When we clean up the rooms of delinquent people who left without paying rent
And often find a lot of coins thrown away, even though they must be struggling to make ends meet.
In other words, it's clear that a life that treats small change with no guilt has become a difficult life.
So, I think people who are struggling financially should first look inside themselves.
Money won't come to those who look down small change
It's best to think of it this way.
Not just 1 yen coins, but I also believe that it's true that big jobs won't come to those who hate small jobs
In that sense, our employees fully understand my thinking.
All of us do our best to make contracts of parking lot worth a few thousand yen,
and we also do contracts worth hundreds of millions same attitude
In our company,
most of these hundreds of millions of yen jobs are concluded through landlords,
but they see us doing our daily parking lot work without cutting corners,
so they entrust us with the big jobs.
Even in real estate,
it's better to think that big jobs won't come to those who look down on small jobs.
Even though we don't advertise, we have a good record of sales, and I'm sure that's the result of our daily attitude.
Well, we found a large amount of coins in the trash house again,
and from now on I'll be spending them little by little over time,
at the supermarket and by depositing them at ATMs.
