炭火アイロン

写真左が熱源に炭を使っていた「炭火アイロン」。形状は、現在のものとほぼ同じ。写真左の手鍋みたいなものが、用途が同じ「火のし」という道具。私は「炭火アイロン」は知っているが、「火のし」は知らない。

2005年 第18回 山本周五郎賞受賞作品ということで読んでみた。
主人公村上真介の仕事は企業の人事部に代わり、退職を迫る“リストラ請負会社”の社員。（こういう会社が実在するのかどうか？）住宅メーカー、建材メーカー、玩具メーカー、銀行、音楽事務所…時には泣かれ、殴られる。平穏な毎日が揺れた時、人間の本音が顔を出す。リストラ対象者とぶつかり合う真介の仕事と恋を描く、テンポの良いエンターテインメント作品。

近々に著者金 美齢氏の講演会に関わる関係で読んだ。私自身は以前からこの時代の日本に生まれたことを本当に幸せなことと思い感謝して生きてきたので、著者の問いには素直に「はい」と答えたい。しかし、この本を読んで自虐趣味の一部似非評論家、一部マスコミの態度はますます許せなく思った。著者の言うとおりそういう方はこの日本という国から出て行ってもらいたい。

漢字 (2005/06/11)

(私が日々の生活の中で読めなかった漢字・読み間違えていた漢字を記録していきます。意味は広辞苑などから引用させていただきました。今回は新聞から。）
86.澱のようにたまった【おり】
液体の底に沈んだ滓。滓は何と読むんだ？答えは「かす」。
87.忸怩たるもの【じくし】
恥じ入るさま。忸も怩も音読みは「はじる」だそうだ。
88.風潮には与しない【くみ】
味方すると関与するの二つの意味がある。
89.晩生の女性【おくて】
辞書には「おくて」で奥手・晩生・晩稲と書かれていた。晩生の反対は「早生」「早稲」（わせ）、その中間が「中手」（なかて）。中手は知らなかった。
90.臍の緒【へそ】
「ほぞ」とも読むそうだ。臍を噬カむの「ほぞ」だが、「噬カむ」？？？「かむ」と読む。初めて見た字だ。勉強になる。

道標（岡山県総社市山手地頭）

道標は古くより旅人の道しるべとして、石等に里程や方向を示し、三叉路の路傍に立てられたものです。現在は全国画一化され道路標識にとって代わられ、道端に忘れられた様な存在になっています。散歩の途中気をつけてみて歩くと、今なお大切に残されている道標を見かけます。私はなぜか風雪にたえ人々の往来を見守り続ける道しるべにひかれます。道標シリーズ第二十五段。

本書は昭和二十年代から平成八年までの日本の中学、高校の国語教科書五百余冊の中から、誰もが知っている二百五十篇の詩、漢詩、訳詩、短歌、和歌、俳句を精選した愛唱詩歌集。青春時代がチョッピリ蘇る。知らないものもかなりあったが。
本書の中から、私のお気に入りは「一個の人間」（武者小路　実篤作）

洗濯板と盥（たらい）

正面にあるのが洗濯板とたらい。写真では見にくいが洗濯板には凹凸がありこれに洗濯物をのせ、石鹸をこすり付けてごしごし洗っていた。核家族が多い今と違い家族数も多く、当時の洗濯は主婦にとってかなりの重労働であった。特に水の冷たい冬場は大変であった。石鹸も粉末や液体のものではなく固形石鹸が洗剤として使われていた。固形石鹸も棒状のものでそれを切って使っていた。洗濯機が普及するのは昭和30年代で主婦の仕事がかなり軽減された。また「お爺さんは芝刈りに、お婆さんは川で洗濯の桃太郎」の話にあるように洗濯機が普及するまでは川での洗濯も幅広く行われていた。
洗濯板とたらいのバックにあるのが、各家庭に必ずあったこれも今はほとんど見かけられなくなった井戸とポンプ。
