Media outlets across the United States are fighting back as President Donald Trump continues his campaign to cast them as "fake news" and an "enemy of the American people."
More than 300 newspapers coordinated the release of editorials that characterize Trump's relentless attacks as a "sustained assault on the free press."
The Boston Globe led the charge by publishing a column titled "Journalists are not the enemy." The Globe editorial says their role is to speak truth to power and is vital to democracy.
Trump has consistently targeted news organizations that contradict his policies or question his words and actions. Trump responded to the editorials by tweeting "the fake media is the opposition party. It is very bad for our great country, but we are winning."
The newspaper editorials come just a day after Trump revoked the security clearance of a former CIA director who has been a frequent critic.
