2018年03月21日 | 爺英語

We begin in Washington, where U.S. President Donald Trump listened to students, teachers, and parents, who all demanded something be done to stop mass shootings. In the group were survivors from last week's massacre at a school in Florida that left 17 people dead.
Trump sat with the group in the White House for what was called a "listening session." Trump vowed action on background checks. He also floated the idea of arming teachers in schools.

(Donald Trump / U.S. President)
"It only works where you have people very adept at using firearms, of which you have many, and it would be teachers and coaches."

But some parents spoke against that idea.

(Mark Barden / Father of school shooting victim)
"Schoolteachers have more than enough responsibilities right now than to have to have the awesome responsibility of lethal force to take a life."

Outside the White House, local students showed solidarity and sympathy for victims and survivors.
