Early risers who gathered at the base of Mount Fuji have been treated to a dazzling sight. They've seen the sunrise from behind the mountain in a phenomenon called "Diamond Fuji."
About 100 people waited patiently on Saturday morning in the freezing cold, ready to capture the moment. Visitors can enjoy the spectacle in late autumn and winter.
The sun emerged from behind the mountain at a little past 8 AM. The name "Diamond Fuji" refers to how the sun looks when it rises. It sparkles like a gem. The moment lasts only two minutes.

Visitors can catch a glimpse of "Diamond Fuji" at viewing events being held through January 12th.
